We are members of the Hoover Elementary Future Problem Solving (FPS) Program.
FPS team members talk about their invitation to the International Conference
This April, two of our school's Future Problem Solving teams qualified to attend the Iowa FPS State Bowl. We were thrilled to place first and second in the junior (elementary) division! In doing so, our first place team earned the distinction as the only Iowa team in the junior division invited to compete at the FPS International Conference in East Lansing, MI in June 2016.
FPS is an international academic program. Its mission is to develop the ability of young people globally to design and promote positive futures through a 6-step problem solving process that uses critical thinking and creativity.
The International Conference brings together top teams from around the world for three days of competition and creativity, along with the building of community as kids gather together in the spirit of tackling world problems.
Our Hoover program meets every week after school with a volunteer coach to research global issues such as recovery from natural disasters and treatment of animals. We practice logical and persuasive writing, brainstorming creative solutions, and oral presentations. We are very excited to meet students from around the world and we are hard at work researching the competition topic "Energy of the Future".
Your support will help to defray the cost of this trip for our four students and their coach. The campaign goal of this fundraiser will go towards the registration, housing and travel fees for our team to attend this event.
Families are covering costs for parents to accompany students.
Donations by check to Hoover PTA are tax deductible. Mail to: Hoover Elementary FPS, 2200 E Court St, Iowa City, IA 52245
Any donations made through this online campaign are not tax deductible.
We are very appreciative of any support through donations or spreading the word about this campaign!
