As a foster parent for the past 7 years, I have learned a great deal regarding poverty and children in need. I have seen first-hand what it's like for kids who have never known what it's like to get clothes with tags on them. And the joy they experience when they receive something brand new, just for them.
Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with some good hand-me-downs....but there is something about "new" that is empowering especially if it's an infrequent experience. Having something they can be proud of....boosting their self-esteem. And many kids I work with in the high school do not have access to "new". So this holiday season I want to give them something to be proud of.....new hooded sweatshirts and new pairs of shoes.
With your help, I want to purchase $1,000 of new hoodies and $1,000 of new shoes for our students in need.
