I'm not saying I'm Wonder Woman... I'm just saying no one has ever seen me and Wonder Woman in the same room.
Who Am I?
In the ‘real world’ I go by Jen or Jennifer. I’m 44 years old and I share my home with two wonderful fur babies; a mini schnauzer named Welby and a mini goldendoodle named Murphy. They provide me lots of love, licks, and entertainment.
My Story
For the past 12 years I’ve worked in healthcare and although I don’t have any designations after my name, I am truly grateful for all of the learning opportunities I’ve had and wonderful people I’ve met along the way. You see, on May 18th I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It certainly took a little bit for the news to sink in, but once it finally did, I realized I already had some great contacts and resources to help me through the challenges that lie ahead.
The Costs
I am blessed to have a job and health insurance that will cover a large majority of my medical expenses, but I’ve also come to realize that cancer of any kind is also extremely expensive to treat. It’s barely been a month since my diagnosis and as you can see below, the bills and charges are starting to accumulate.
- Each visit I owe a co-pay. The amount owed depends on the type of physician I’m seeing.
- I currently owe $1,100 for a left breast biopsy. (Yes, one biopsy.)
- There are another $2,500 in pending charges awaiting a response from my insurance company.
- Once surgery is scheduled, half of what I owe for that surgery is due prior to the actual surgery date.
There used to be money out there to help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, but unfortunately COVID seems to have dried up nearly all of that. As I said, I’m thankful to have insurance and I cannot imagine what I would do without it. But I still worry about how I will pay the extra bills I’m now acquiring due to my breast cancer. Certainly not something I ever planned for…
How You Can Help
If you are able, please consider supporting my fundraiser. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and will go directly towards medical expenses (appointments, co-pays, surgery, treatments, etc.).
Please feel free to share this fundraiser with those you know. Your prayers and support are also welcome!
Thank you!
Jennifer
