In April 2026 I will be taking part in the Paris Marathon, which feels wild to even be saying! It’s going to be one of the biggest physical challenges I’ve taken on. It was important to me that when I made this decision that I would run for a charity that really meant something to me. I will be running and raising money for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). Which is a charity that could not mean more to me.

As someone who has suffered from very poor mental health in the past and has experienced these thoughts, I cannot stress how important charities like this are.

My mental health struggles started in 2014 where I was diagnosed with depression. Day to day life felt like a constant battle where I felt trapped and I thought would never end. After years of being on antidepressants and various types of counselling, I honestly felt like I would feel like this forever.

When I thought things couldn’t get lower, I hit my rock bottom in 2017 when I lost my mum suddenly. I’ve never been in a darker place. My mum was my world and to me, at that time I felt that going on with my life without her was impossible.

One in five of us will have suicidal thoughts in our life. CALM’s vision is that no one feels like suicide is their only option. But right now, too many people are struggling to see a way forward. Every day in the UK we lose 18 people to suicide. This isn’t just a stat on a page. These are our mums and dads, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, partners and friends.
