just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly...proverb
As many of you know our family experienced a devastating tragedy during the early morning hours of February 7th, when Bryan's brother Cody was involved in a deadly house fire that destroyed everything he owned and took the lives of his beautiful fiance Taylor, their unborn child, and his best friend Jesse. Cody suffered severe, life-threatening burns that night and spent nearly 3 weeks in the critical care burn unit at Houston Methodist Hosital. The burns on his upper body and face are healing, but the brunt of his injuries were internal and required ongoing ventilation. We are happy to report that despite the severity of his internal and external injuries he was released this week to continue his healing in the care of loved ones. He is making progress in the right direction, but the road ahead of him will be a tough one. He has lost the most precious people in the world to him, and his journey through grief and self-healing will not be easy. He was involved in one of the worst horrors a person can go through, and unfortunately the fire was only the beginning of his struggles.
Cody is a strong man who is no stranger to adversity. He is a very loyal, loving, and hard-working man who loved Taylor beyond words. They wanted nothing more than to make a happy life together in each other's company. It comes as no surprise to those of us who know and love him, that he risked his life that night to save her and her brother. We believe in his strength and know that he will weather this storm.
Many of you have asked recently how you can help. Please know that we are so thankful and grateful for all of the thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes we have received from everyone. It was very comforting to Cody while he was hospitalized to hear messages of encouragement and hope. There are no words to express the gratitude we have as family to those of you who reached out to us. As we begin to pick up the pieces and move forward, we are realizing that we cannot make the pain that Cody is experiencing go away. For Bryan and I, the overwhelming desire to help is heartbreaking and this is one step we can take to help relieve some of Cody's financial burdens so that he can focus on healing. Cody hasn't asked for any help, but I’ve set up this Go Fund Me account for all who feel compelled to donate. He lost everything in the fire. The funds we are able to raise here will go directly to him to help him meet his immediate needs. He will require extensive ongoing medical care, prescriptions, clothes, shoes, everyday living items, food, housing, etc. Due to his injuries he will not be able to return to work for some time, so the donations he receives will help provide him some financial relief during this difficult time. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Please, please, please share Cody's story, and if you feel inclined and are able, make a donation to help him. Every donation, no matter the size, is gratefully and humbly appreciated.
