Adopted Son Victim of Hit & Run. Single Mom Pleade

Calvin and I moved 3 months ago to Miami Beach from Utah because I had PTSD from 2 car accidents in the snow. We were victims of 2 distracted drivers who on the snow lost control of their cars, got bith times on our lane and hit us in a head on coalition. We though no snow no accidents. The little we knew. The difference was that the two times, I sweade (doble el auto para la derecha  the car to the right to protect my son. Boths times I ended on emergency with severe injuries but I saved my son.. ..I will do it again
I got all the impact to protect him.  But this time on Sep 22nd I was not there to protect him even when he said he saw me when he blackout.

October 10th my bills are $46,000 amd they will keep going up...

No mother should ever get the phone call nor the visit of the police telling your child was involved in an accident. My name is Sonia, I am the mama of Calvin, one of the teenagers who was hit on Friday September 22nd around 9pm at the intersections of pine tree street, sheridan av and 26th st in South Beach, Miami. First it all, I am a believer of miracles, we are witnessing a miracle that the two them are alive. Gracias a Dios.

My son is my life and would do anything for him. It destroys me seeing him suffering and in pain.

We just moved to this area from Utah searching for a break from the snow as Calvin and I were victims of a head on coalition from a distracted driver on the winter. I was also looking for more diversity and to go back to my Argentinean roots. Another reason was of course because #Messi is here lmao!! At the end I was looking to heal from some personal wounds.

We have no family nor friends in this area (yet). We have our church. I am a faithful believer in Gods power.

Also his adopted father lives 5 minutes away with his girlfriend but he is . ... ..no comments

This was Calvins first time going out. He was excited about making local friends. I met Mili the same Friday, she invited him to youth night at the scott rakow ice ring youth center. I was a little hesitant to let him go because I didn't know her nor her parents. But Calvin last words to me before he left me with his friend and gave me a goodbye kiss were "please mom I am growing, you have to let me go, don't worry about me nothing bad is going to happen to me. I promised" I let him go but told him to be back home at 8pm. He was late. I called him at 8:50pm. I was upset with him because he didn't follow his mother request. After he hang up I said to be back by no later than 9:30pm, which he agreed on.

The little that he knew. I knew by 9:45pm that something was wrong because no one was answering their phones. At 10:20pm the police was at my door.. and told me that my son was hit by a car and was taken to the Jackson Trauma Center on an ambulance, my heart stopped, my mind went in black. When I got there and saw him in this condition, I almost fainted.

Calvin injuries where on his head, concussion, deep hole on top his eyebrow, he lost for now most of his eyebrow and doctor said he would have a scar for life to remember. His second surgery was on his leg. A hole created by a piece of the car metal.

I was not there to give details on how were they but I watched the surveillance videos. I do know that they were crossing the street and they didn't see each other because it was raining and dark. The driver got out of the car and when she saw my son on a pond of blood, she panicked and took off.

Detective Dominguez is running the investigation case # is 2023 80 250.

Update september 27th thanks to God that the lady driver who hit my son has turn herself in.

October 2nd A sad update about the driver insurance. They will only cover up to 10k. I dont have all our medical bills, but the cost of one of the surgery was around 5k, he had multiples and he even lost his eyebrow which means a future plastic surgery the doctor said. Plus the stay at the trauma center, meds, ambulance, ctscan, surgeries, mental help it will be for sure on the $20,000 plus. I should have medical bills comong in soon.

Gracias!! Thanks for doing the right thing. Sometimes is not easy but it brings you piece of mind.

Calvin had mutiple surgeries and he may need more surgeries in the future. We wont talk about his mental health healing. He wont be able to go to school for a while.

On top of everything and in a more personal manner his adopted dad who lives 5 minutes away with his girlfriend didn't come to see him nor call me to see how his son was doing. His excuse was the divorce however, nothing nor anyone (his girlfriend, nor me) should be a reason to don't come to see your son when he needed you the best. I care about my ex happiness and have nothing against him. I was the one who called him. We do not get child support, nor alimony, nor financial help from him since we separated on July of last year. I just hired a lawyer and finally filed for divorce. This hurts deep... Please Pray for us. I need Good Vibes. The future needs to be better for us....

How do we support ourselves? Calvin and I have a small place that we have been flipping and getting it ready to rent it out in Cocoa. Cocoa is 3 hours drive from MB.
Our work is very physical and with this situation and no money, we have to put a pause to the remodeling for a while. We won't be able to finish this place on time for renters to move in for probably another month or two. In conclusion no income for us.

If there is any handyman/yard worker/builder/general contractor/roofer/air conditioning/window/plumber/electrician around who could help me please send me a private message please. I can do it all except for.plumbong ans electrical.

Our Story
My ex of 20 years was infertile and we couldn't have children. It was hard for me because I always dreamed with a big family. I decided to become a foster mom and did it for 5 years. I foster Calvin at the age of 6 and adopted at 7. His birth mom gave him to me. He is my only child. I just found out that his insurance from the adoption from DCfS Medicaid Utah DOES NOT work in the State of Florida!!!!!

My son and I used to go every weekend to fix up this place down in Cocoa to list it rent. Cocoa is our only income and now we have none.
I support ourselves from the rent of our place that Calvin and I were getting ready. We just finished the cabinets, new granite, new laundry but we are still in need to finish the floors, emptied the place out, framing the back. In the future the place will need a new roof, new windows and air conditioning. This rent is for section 8 in a low income area in Cocoa.

We were excited to finally have an income after 4 months and start renting it out again. This plan will get delayed until Calvin heals.

I flip homes with my son, I used to built homes. I am also a Feng Shui Interior Designer. A retired journalist from Argentina. I sell every 4 years the Football Soccer World Cup.

***** Neither my son or myself have insurance and I am not getting any younger lmao.******

We are asking the community and friends everywhere to donate to cover our bills whatever you can from $5 to ..... anything, little or big anything would help us. Even if you can't much, share the link with others who may be able to, sharing is caring!

We want the police, the community, the politicians and the parents to work together on preventing this type of accidents from keep happening especially in the intersection. Ayudanos!

From now our as parents of children who experienced a hit and run we want to work together to find the criminals who did this to our children. We were blessed but many are still on the search.

Calvin had asphat rushes and sleeves scrapes and had surgeries on his face and leg, Mili got lucky didn't have to have surgeries but she had asphat rushes and sleeves scrapes on her back and arms. She is a very lucky girl.

**** On September 27th when we reached $3720, the moms decided that because our lives, medical are going to be different and our bills aren't coming together, is better for the moms to have their own campaigns. We hope this way we can get more help. I paid Clarissa the part that we agreed and she will start a new campaign for hee daughter. We love them, support and pray for them.

Let's don't even talk about the emotional damage this can create to a teenager and the strength that requires from a mother...
