Hit and Run Victim: Winston Copeland
Hello everyone,
Winston Copeland is the victim of a hit and run accident. Our father was on his way to work riding his bicycle per usual, which was well equipped with front and back lights as well as wearing his reflector vest. He was struck and injured by a speeding SUV all while he was in the bicycle lane, on commercial Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. He’s a hard worker, a caring soul, a good provider, a Christian man, a friend, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and human being.
He worked at a local McDonald’s hoping to gain some benefits, being a new immigrant in this country, trying escape poverty, to acquire a small taste of the American dream. Unfortunately, this chance was taken from him by a reckless person, he will never be able to work again and he didn’t make it to his one year marker in order to attain health insurance benefits.
what makes this incident so heartbreaking, is that; our father was left for dead on the side of the road from 4:48 am to 6:55am when another driver stopped out of Care and concern to notify emergency services.
He sustained multiple life threatening injuries that he is still fighting.
As a result of his injuries he loss his arm ( his dominant right ), has a broken leg, broken ribs, fractured spine, lacerated liver and a punctured lung.
He’s been fighting for his life since 8/6/21. He has been heavily sedated due to his injuries, he’s had multiple surgeries to piece him back together.
He will need intensive physical therapy and is physically Impaired for the rest of his life. He will need a prosthetic arm and round the clock caregiving for a long time.
We ate here standing in the gap for him, asking for assistance from anyone who is able to help. Many friend and loved ones around the world have been asking to assistance which is why we’ve put our pride aside and setup this account on his behalf. He doesn’t have health insurance however, he is getting the best possible care from an amazing team of doctors, surgeons, specialist and nurses. They are “emotionally invested “in his care and rehabilitation. We appreciate all your well wishes and assistance to help get him through this unfortunate and unforeseen circumstance.
God bless.
