About Hip Hop Paathshala

Hip Hop Paathshala (HHP) is a unique school of Hip Hop in the heart of Dharavi (India’s biggest slum) dedicated to changing the lives of India’s most needy young people. HHP fosters a sense of community, social responsibility and works to improve mental & physical health, adding the Hip Hop discipline to student education.

The school has an intensive daily curriculum for children after mainstream school for B Boying (Breakdancing), Beatboxing and Rapping 6 days a week serving 20 - 30 young people

HHP was founded in August 2023 by Hip Hop artist & Bboy Akash Dhangar who has been working with young people in his local community for the past 15 years.

Akash is from Dharavi himself, and in spite of personal circumstances, is manifesting his vision to create a positive change in society through the transformative power of Hip Hop Culture against all odds. Hip Hop is a medium bridging the gap between creativity and wellbeing through artistic disciplines, and Akash teaches it to impoverished youth residing with him in the slums.

There is a significant gap between mainstream Hip Hop and the true artistic values the training of its disciplines created. Hip-Hop Paathshala aims to bridge this gap by offering a curriculum that explores the history, techniques, and philosophies behind real Hip Hop. By educating young people in Hip Hop, Paathshala offers them a chance to reach a global audience, culture and network with people outside of the slums.

Education Programme in Hip Hop Paathshala

The Education Programme will be providing FREE education in basic maths, science, languages and Hip Hop to approximately 30 young people over 6 days a week for 48 weeks in the year. HHP will have two teachers that will be teaching for 2 hours per day where in total the teachers will be teaching 6 hours per week.

During school holidays, the Education Programme will focus on teaching English language and Life Coaching to develop critical thinking, confidence and additional skills.

The programme will cost approximately £666 (₹73,319) a month or £8000 (₹880,708) for one year supporting 30 young people. The cost will cover:

This project will save parents who struggle for income living in Dharavi, Mumbai approximately £180/₹20,000 rupees per year in tuition fees.
