PROJECT KAIDA

Project Kaida is a major redevelopment and transformation of The Gurkha Museum in Winchester, United Kingdom, with the aim of establishing a world-class heritage centre. The project seeks to modernise gallery spaces, digitise archival collections, and expand research and educational provision in order to present the history, culture, and service of Gurkha soldiers. The term Kaida, derived from Nepali and meaning “the Gurkha way,” reflects the project’s commitment to preserving the distinctive ethos and enduring contributions of the Gurkhas to Britain and global peace.

Key components of Project Kaida include:

Gallery Transformation: Redesign and refitting of public galleries with contemporary displays and interactive interpretation to engage diverse audiences.

Research and Education Hub: Conversion of the existing library into dedicated spaces for research, archives, and flexible learning activities.

Archive Digitisation: Systematic cataloguing and digitisation of historical records, personal diaries, and photographs to enable global access.

Oral History Programme: Recording and preserving the lived experiences of Gurkha veterans and their families.

Community Outreach: Development of educational and public programmes to increase awareness of the Gurkha legacy.

To support Project Kaida, we will undertake a charity hike in the Scottish Highlands, culminating in a bagpipe performance at the summit to honour Gurkha tradition, remembrance, and motivation. On 14 February , the hike will cover 15 miles, traversing the Pentland Hills and ascending Scald Law, the highest point in the range. Our aim is to complete the route within five hours, combining endurance, respect, and purpose with every step.Music has long held cultural and ceremonial significance within Gurkha regiments, and the use of bagpipes has been an established tradition for generations, symbolising pride, morale, and continuity.

Support for this initiative is welcomed through donations of any amount, all of which will contribute directly to the success of Project Kaida
