Her life matters - Final round of treatment

Donation protected
Thank you all for your support. Your donations made it possible for me to do 2 complete rounds of treatment. And the donations that are still coming in will be used to face down my final round of treatment. While it was dissapointing to find out that the first 2 rounds were not successful in getting me back into remission. I'm so incredibly grateful for those of you who helped me fight hard enough to still be here today. Thank you. Here's to round 3!

My name is Brittany Delaney. I am a 33 yr old mother of two, an Arts Educator, an Activist...and I have Lupus (SLE). Over the years I have had three strokes, countless seizures, numerous hospitalizations, 6 rounds of chemo, and countless treatment rejections. I recently found out that I have nodules in my lungs. What was once just 5 nodules I was told “weren’t terribly concerning” is now 25 in my left lung and 8 in my right that are all between 6 & 9mm in size…

and they are more than concerning now.

I am under the care of the Cancer Institute in MN, but hope has been hard to come by. Lupus makes most things difficult. True to its nature, this is no different. The nodules are inoperable, because of the inflammation in my lungs. I am in another flare…One that is threatening my life. This flare is attacking my vascular system. I had another port placed in my chest this past summer to allow access through this flare. Additionally, it is attacking my kidneys and brain causing multiple flare ups of Pseudo Tumor Cerebri, also known as Intercranial high blood pressure.

Without treatment, the prognosis is 6 months.

Since diagnosis at 21, I have been through 18 rounds of treatment. As time has gone on, my insurance has dropped more and more life saving medications off the formulary. The treatments/medications I need today are largely uncovered. Instead of battling this alone, I am choosing to lean into community.

Every donation, prayer, and good vibe helps in this fight. Every word of encouragement serves as a reminder to keep fighting. My hope is for these next few rounds of treatment to work... And that a year from now, I'll be telling you a success story... One that involves me watching my children do the simple things: finish elementary, play sports, learn their first instruments. One that involves me continuing to fight for our babies in this community.

Love and light

What happens if (when) we meet the goal?

I will start treatment right away! Parts of this will be done in the hospital. I will also have in-home care that will help manage medications and port service, so I keep access for my infusions.

What happens after treatment?

The hope is that my lupus will go into remission and the inflammation in my lungs will go away. This would make it possible to remove the nodules and biopsy, which will be priority. The hope is also that it will stop my body from rejecting my kidneys, and the Pseudo Tumor Cerebri will relax. We'll provide updates as they come!
