Meet 17 year old Ivan Garcia (the young man on the right) and my son Skye. Ivan is a senior in High School who loves soccer, baseball and desires to be a business owner - an entruprepneur.
Our family met Ivan a few years ago - we didn't realize at that time that he was living on his own, getting himself to school, work and where ever else he needed to go by foot or bus. Just before Christmas Ivan asked us if he could move in with our family. He needed a home. We said "Yes of course!" He has been a great blessing to our family. Ivan is an exceptional kid, hardworking and self motivated.
A couple of weeks ago he over heard Skye and I talking about a trip we are taking this June called "Heritage Tours " It is a three week tour for LDS graduating seniors - they visit all the LDS Church historical sights from Salt Lake City to New York and back, along with attending a Kansas City Royals Baseball game, a Broadway play in New York City and the spectacular Niagra Falls. Ivan was very interested in learning more and if he could also attend. When I told him how much it cost, he immediately meekly replied, "Perhaps another time." He is working to save money to pay for college and to buy a car.
On Valentine's Day, Ivan was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by my son Skye. It was a very special day. Ivan rearranged his school schedule so that he could attend Seminary where he is studying Church History. "How awesome would it be," I thought, "for Ivan to visit all the Church Historical Sights that he has been learning about?"
Pretty Awesome!
I asked Ivan if we were able to raise the money for him would he be interested in going? He humbly said, "Yes!"
