Help towards zaras treatment after being poisoned

Just back from the vets and the Vet is suspecting that zara eye issue is glaucoma, the vets are saying zara needs to see a specialist ( ophthalmologist) which is going to be expensive. There is only 2 specialists in Scotland so phoning them Monday please share the gofund as we are desperately going to struggle as bill could be hundreds / thousands

Good news is zara has gained another 2kg, and she's also looking like she has platelets as her blood clotted very quickly, still need to wait on results for a definite answer skin issue could heal itself now she is off her steroids xx

I have set this up for princess zara! Sadly very sudden last year zaras health went down hill she was exposed to rat posion in her own back garden when someone had been using it and a dead rat found in back garden

She was rushed to emergency vets who gave her a sickness injection and characol, however it was too late and her body had some serious side effects.

The vets gave the heartbreaking news that zara could potentially have days to live, her immune system is attacking her body.

Zara was put on a very high dose of steroids to help her body fight this, thankfully months down the line she was able to, she had a few relapses but nothing Nicole couldn't handle. Nicole then spoke with adele from the natural vet who recommended Atopica tablets ( most vets don't stock these as they are so expensive) however the steroids have nasty side effects long term to zara really needed to give these new tablets a try! Thankfully in the last 3 months they seem to be working and she's only on half a steroid a day instead of 10 ( she is being weaned off them)

This condition is a long term illness, and zara will possibly need surgery on her eyes, and also medicine to keep her body stable for the rest of her life.

Zaras mum is a devoted and huge animal lover, animals come before her! Whilst the news shattered Nicole, she fought for Zaras life, prior to this zara was a bouncy happy big puppy, she wasn't ready to leave it wasn't her time.

Nicole phoned every vet Including tv series vet on the hill, also noel fitzpatrick and sold her car and everything she had for help

She is also on natural remedies to help her including manuka honey, coconut oil, her skin is bathed twice daily with medicated shampoo as she has had a few skin infections due to the immune system affected. Zara is now improving and gained weight, and her health is coming back to normal but there is always a chance of a relapse, and also the odd issue can occur due to her immune system affected.

She also possiblely needs eye surgery, which is a worry but they will get through it.

Zara has now been diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (IMT), and calunosid cutis. All this was triggerd with someone using rat posion and zara got Into it from the garden. She now has a chronic illness which won't go away, but she will be kept stable with meds and treatments, blood check ups for platelet counts and making sure her kidney and liver is OK.

Anything to help Nicole would be greatly appreciated, with the cost of living and expensive vet bills it can be a struggle. Thank you so much for reading zaras story

Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (IMTP) is a serious and sometimes life-threatening auto-immune condition in which the immune system attacks and destroys a patient’s platelets, putting the patient at risk of spontaneous bleeding.

Clinical Signs

Because platelets are involved in normal blood clotting, patients with thrombocytopenia often have bruises noted in their skin or mouth. Some patients will bleed from the nose or mouth or have blood visible in their urine or feces. Some patients bleed internally and present to the hospital for severe weakness or collapse. It is important that patients in this condition be evaluated quickly.

Diagnosis

Patients suspected of having IMTP are usually diagnosed with a combination of blood tests and imaging studies (radiographs/X-RAYS and ultrasound). Blood tests generally show low numbers of platelets from the immune system attack. Patients often have elevated white cell counts from the immune stimulation and may also have abnormal organ function tests from the stress of the low platelets on other organs.
