Help Turkey Trot Again
Turk is more than just a dog—he’s a 80-pound lap magnet with a moose nose, a stubborn streak, and a heart as big as his goofy hound-Sharpei face. He’s the kind of dog who’ll greet every pup at the park, then immediately go to their humans for pets instead. He lives for zoomies when you try to chase him, and ends it all by flopping onto your lap for a nap. Give him a kiss on the nose and he’ll give you a slow, sweet lick back—his way of saying, “You’re my person now.”
Turk turns 11 on June 20th. He was hurt at the dog park in March when another dog jumped at him. At first, we thought it was a mild injury, but the swelling didn’t go down. In trying to find out what was wrong, we uncovered something we never expected: Turk has chronic leukemia (CLL).
While we were trying to understand what his cancer meant, his leg got worse. It turns out he had fully torn his cranial cruciate ligament (CCL)—like the ACL in humans—and now needs TPLO surgery to walk normally again.
The good news is Turk’s cancer is treatable, and the doctors say he could have at least 3 more happy years ahead. But to begin treatment, he first needs surgery to stabilize his leg. Without it, he can’t move comfortably or start chemo.
Unfortunately, we’re under a time crunch. Because of the cancer, we don’t have time to keep searching for a cheaper surgical option—we need to move forward quickly, and while we’re doing everything we can, we could use a little help getting there.
We’re asking for help covering just the cost of the TPLO surgery. Every bit helps—whether you can give or simply share Turk’s story. Your support will help him get back to what he loves most: zooming through the park, sneaking kisses, and curling up with his humans.
Thank you for helping Turkey trot again.
