Zach is part of a very special family. His mother, Felisha Tillery Sexton has had a lifetime of overcoming adversity. I have known her since she was 10 years old.
I have remained close to the Tillerys for the past 30 years. Felisha is one of the hardest working, strongest women I know.
But like so many families the burden of a major medical event like the one her oldest son Zachery endured in October is more than this family can withstand. Trips back and forth to Chapel Hill, missed work and a host of unexpected expenses have put the family at financial risk.
Our family has contributed to a fund in Chapel Hill to help with gas money, parking fees and meals and plan to do more to help this family get back on its feet. But this will be an ongoing challenge for the Tillery family as they continue to support Zach as he fights for his life at the UNC Burn Unit.
Felisha asked me if I had ever done a GoFundMe page. I have never been involved in one. But I have done a lot of fundraising for worthy causes and I can't think of a mother who works as hard, and is as deserving of a hand UP as this one. And so here I am, setting up a GoFundMe campaign on her behalf.
If this story has moved you, and you want to help, please consider making a donation. I will be overseeing this effort and will be sure to direct the funds to the family's needs.
Thank you for your support of the Tillery family. It is hard to imagine the heartache of watching a child suffer so much. And even harder imagining the stress of the financial free fall that has followed.
It is my hope we can throw out a safety net to this deserving family during these difficult days.
