Simo needs our help to fight cancer

My dear friend from college, Simona Copil, needs our help for her fight with cancer. I have known Simona since my first college in Cluj, Romania and in 2003 -2004, we were blessed to spend a wonderful year in Nantes, France for an internship. This experience in Nantes helped us become close friends. Simona is a truly wonderful person. She always had a kind word to say, lifted me up when I needed, and was a fun presence overall. Then… life got in the way. I have been living in the US for the past 14 years – and Simona remained in Romania to make this country proud of having such people that chose to remain there during hard economic times. We lost a bit of touch but always got back on track. We are those type of friends that even if years go by and we are separated by large distances… when we meet it feels like everything is just the same. Simona is a rather untraditional person, likes to challenge the rules in a constructive way and has always been a strong woman. She is kind and sweet and genuine and has a big heart. She is very good in everything she undertakes, a very talented person at her work, creative and smart. One flaw is that her body is giving her a bit of a hard time and this is where she needs our help… She has been fighting a nasopharyngeal cancer for three years now. For a long time, Simona though that this fight was hers and only hers, and when things got worse early this year, she finally accepted the help of others. Her tumor located in the neck area, is of a size of a pomelo and cannot be safely removed by surgery at this time. However, there is hope for a treatment that she would like to follow in Germany to make her immune system stronger so that she can fight this disease. The best miracle is that after three years, the cancer has not yet spread into other organs, and Simona is very likely to get better soon. She has a strong will and I believe in her getting back on track with her life and that she will run a Marathon next year! And hopefully she will come and visit me soon, so that I can show her the Atlantic Ocean from beautiful Cape May, NJ! Simona currently lives with her family in Oradea, Romania and has a three-year-old daughter, Dora, who is an adorable fireball of a little girl. I am asking all my friends, whether they know Simona or not, if they would be willing to contribute with as little as they can, for her to get better. Needless to say, we need to move on this fast… I am usually not comfortable asking sfor money and Simona isn’t neither. But we spend so much money on things we don’t really need or could live without and Simona needs it right now.   There is a separate facebook page in Romanian - called "Simo are nevoie de ajutor in lupta cu cancerul"  (Simo needs help in fighting cancer) made in Romania where a small movement has been created. I call it a movement because every day, since her situation became public, more and more people have been showing support and this also proves what kind of person Simona really is… for her to awake so much energy and love in others. This amount is needed for a next step for Simona, for a treatment she can follow in Cologne, Germany. In Romania money has a different value and it is much harder to gather this amount fast. I am creating this page here, in the US, because I haven't found so much generosity in other people in the world than my American friends.  For my upcoming birthday, I am asking my friends instead of giving me a gift, to make a donation for Simona. I cannot thank you enough! Andreea Denes (Andreea Leaha)
