Help Renee's Fight Against Grade 4 Brain Cancer

Donazione protetta
On Renee's 43rd birthday, July 20th, we were on our way home because our daughter was feeling sick. Just two blocks from home, Renee was in the back seat to comfort her on the way, when suddenly I saw in the rear view that Renee started convulsing. I immediately pulled over to make sure she was ok, but she wasn’t responding I held her trying to get a focused response, but she wouldn’t stop seizing and unresponsive. I screamed for help with all I got, not knowing what was happening since she had never had a seizure before that day. After a neighbor came out to help me make sure she was still breathing and not going to hurt herself, I called 911. The paramedics came and checked her out. She slowly regained consciousness, and they offered to take her to the ER, but she originally declined going to the hospital because she was nauseous and didn't realize she had been unconscious for 10 minutes while this all happened. As soon as we got home I recounted to her what happened, so she agreed we had to go to the ER where they did a CT scan and an MRI. They discovered a tumor in the lower right side of her brain and had her transferred to Halifax Health Daytona for a craniotomy to remove the tumor. After analyzing the tumor they discovered it was a Grade 4 glioblastoma, a very aggressive type of malignant brain tumor. After the surgery, the neurosurgeon told us that they could do a second surgery to possibly remove more, if not all, of the tumor they could find, but there was a risk of the surgery affecting Renee's vision since the tumor was located in the occipital region in the back of the brain. She decided to risk it to remove more of the tumor and improve her odds to get more time with her daughter. So on July 26th, she had a second craniotomy. They were able to remove the remaining tumor and have clean margins, however, she did lose some vision on her left side as well as blurry vision. After 10 days in ICU, she was able to come home on July 30th. The next steps will be chemotherapy and radiation for 6 weeks followed by an electrical stimulator that she’ll need to wear 18 hours a day to hopefully prevent the tumor cells from coming back. This type of cancer is terminal, but we have faith that Renee is a fighter and we will do everything in our power to give her as much time as possible with our daughter, Luna, who turns 4 years old in November. Right now we don't know if Renee will be able to return to work due to the treatments and her eyesight. With just one income it will be difficult to stay on top of all the bills and allow Renee the time off work for rest and recovery. Any little bit would help.
