Help me get out of my abusive home
Donation protected
Thank you for giving your attention to my situation. I am in desperate need of your help to escape my parents’ abuse by moving in with with my sister in Puerto Rico.
My name is Gilda and I am 22. I currently live with my parents who have emotionally, mentally, and physically abused me since childhood. This abuse ranges from controlling my gender presentation, to economically controlling me by using my dependence on medical services (since I am diagnosed with various things from BPD, to ADHD), to physical assault. I finally sought refuge from them when I went to college, but I had to return home because their abuse had deeply debilitating long term effects. Furthermore the college I went to cut my disability services and I was forced to leave.
The fact that I am living with my abusers means that it is quite difficult for me to make any progress in my recovery through therapy sessions. This is because I am constantly abused and re-traumatized. For example, in February my father attempted to physically assault me and I had to run away from home without any money or access to my medications to escape his abuse. More recently, my mother threatened to call the police during a breakdown that I had in response to her gaslighting me. However, I was not acting violently towards her or myself.
To make things worse, they conspired to separate me from my sister and have succeeded so far. Initially, I planned to move to Puerto Rico once my sister was settled in, but she has been there for a few months and my parents have refused to pay for my plane ticket. Thus, what appeared to be a plan for me to escape my abusive environment was revealed to be another example of my parents’ manipulation.
My sister is the only person who I can completely rely on at home. She is not only emotionally supportive of me, but she also helps me to get my medications and wakes me up to make sure that I take them. By being with my sister and out of my parents’ reaches I can finally take the first steps in healing from their abuse.
