Help Kammie Beat Amyloidosis and Myeloma
My name is Earnie Williams and I am setting up this fundraiser for my mother, Kammie Holmes. We have been told we have one of the most beautiful and inspiring mother-daughter relationships and I am so grateful. To say that we are close is an understatement. We are best friends! My mom is a beautiful soul with an infectious laugh! You cannot forget her once you meet her. Kammie is full of life and energy! Always smiling and making others laugh. She has such a big caring heart, which makes it hard not to love her.
Kammie was diagnosed less than a month ago with Myeloma and Amyloidosis, a rare heart failure disease. The Myeloma has produced proteins that have hardened her heart, not allowing it to relax enough to have sufficient blood flow and oxygen to the rest of the body. I witnessed her have shortness of breath, dizziness, fluid build in her legs and lungs, and not be able to sleep for weeks. I had to watch my mother take a helicopter from Austin to Houston to await an evaluation for an emergency heart transplant at Houston Methodist Hospital. After her heart transplant, my mother will be in recovery for 6 months and then at that time have to have a stem cell transplant to further treat the Myeloma.
Just 2 months ago, Kammie was enjoying her passions of working as a college D2 basketball official and teaching at Small Middle School as a Learning Behavior Specialist. She loves working with kids and brings so much to her community through volunteer work at Greater Mount Zion church. Throughout the pandemic, she worked to give out cases of food to people in need. She enjoys coaching girls AAU basketball, kayaking, camping, taking fun road trips, playing with her cats, and beating me in dominoes.
Kammie is in CICU and will most likely be in the hospital in Houston for the next 1-3 months awaiting transplant and in rehab for the next year. I will have to drop everything and relocate from Austin to Houston ASAP to be with my mother through this time. This will be a very expensive process. My beautiful mother needs your help to fight this rare Amyloidosis condition, and all the associated medical costs that will incur due to hospital stay, life saving medications, and treatments.
As you can see, this is a heavy and scary unforeseen challenge for us to deal with. But, we WILL NOT GIVE UP! If you are unable to donate monetarily, we ask that you please spread the word and help lift us and our family members in your thoughts, prayers, and love. Let us know we are NOT ALONE! Thank you everyone.
