Help out Jennifer Chanitz

Donation protected
I am writing on behalf of a dear friend Jo-Anne Ayres and her daughter Jennifer Chanitz. Jen has experienced  a devastating and unexpected health crisis when she suffered multiple brain bleeds in June.  Doctors determined that the bleeds had occurred 8 - 10 days prior to her admission to the ER.  The blood had dissipated and there was severe swelling and pressure in her brain.  Surgery was not an option.

Jen spent 18 days in ICU at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY enduring painful brain spasms, another subsequent bleed, and a battery of tests and procedures.    On July 1st she underwent a successful procedure to coil two of the aneurisms.  Another remains to be treated.

On Friday, July 8th she had improved enough to be moved to a neuro step-down unit.  Jen is communicating by nodding her head and making hand gestures.  Speech is currently eluding her, but she is receiving therapy and we remain very optimistic.   Future therapies will also include ambulation, PT and OT.

Jen has a long road to recovery ahead of her, but she has always been a fighter.  Some may recognize a determined streak she may have inherited from a woman we all know and love.

We know there will be astronomical medical costs.  A social worker at the hospital has told Jen's mom Jo-Anne that the co-pay for rehab may prove to be 'unattainable'.

Jen has an 8-year old son and only a month before this crisis began, Jen received the news that her position at IBM had been terminated as a result of yet another 'downsizing' at the company.

She is now suspended in the abyss between having inadequate disability insurance yet potentially having 'too much' to be Medicaid eligible.  We just don't know.

Your contribution will go a long way toward easing the worry and stress about the financial implications of this life-altering situation.  It could also mean the difference between Jen receiving rehab locally or being forced to be placed out of town or possibly even rehabbing  at home without the benefit of an intensive program.  Again, we just don't know.

What I do know is that Jennifer and her family are deserving of our financial support, our friendship, and our prayers.

Thank you so much!
