Helping Sudan - Darfur Emergency Appeal

Since the 15th of April 2023, the warzone has expanded exponentially in area encompassing most of the country. The UN has classified Sudan as the worst humanitarian crisis and the largest displacement crisis in the world since 1948 with most of the country’s population living in refugee camps.

The international aid delivered to Sudan covers only 12% of the needs as stated by the UN humanitarian coordinator for Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami. “Famine is imminent” cautioned the UN Edem Wosornu, Director of Operations and Advocacy, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Helping Sudan is a coalition of UK-based university Sudanese societies. Our goal is to alleviate the unbearable consequences of the war on the Sudanese people. In particular, we are turning our attention to the refugee camps in the Western part of Sudan the state of Darfur, known to be the poorest and most vulnerable part of the country, the capital of Darfur state is currently the epic-centre of the fighting. This makes it impossible for international organisations to infiltrate and deliver aid to where it is most needed.

In Helping Sudan, we believe in swift and immediate action and so we have teamed-up with a local team of volunteers on the ground spanning more than 25 refugee camps in Darfur. Our plan is to establish and sustain a hot-food canteen in each camp and to provide much needed clothing and tents to protect from the scorching heat which in many cases can lead to death.

In these camps, a child dies every 2 hours. Please help us save the lives of the voiceless people of Darfur.
