Lia's Long-Awaited Opportunity for Healing!

My daughter Lia has been struggling since she was 14 years old with debilitating health issues. After waiting for many years to get into a specialist for her conditions, she has been admitted as a patient. Praise God! 

The main issue is, ALL appointments, treatments, and medications are out of pocket and beyond her ability to afford. As a mother, it breaks my heart to be unable to help my girl pay for her much-needed treatments. That is why I'm reaching out to anyone and everyone who might have the desire and the means to help Lia more fully heal, live, and finally thrive! 

Before She Became Sick
Lia was a force to be reckoned with! She was strong, motivated, and involved in life. She was a very hard-working kid, whether it was doing chores or studying hard to maintain her straight A’s. Lia has never ceased her love & thirst for knowledge.
She was a tenacious little scrapper on the soccer field and would take on girls twice her size without flinching. She was fearless. 
She enjoyed being outside exploring nature and playing sports. She was passionately involved in the arts. She had so much fun performing in the school drama club & choir, as well as musical theater in church. 
Lia has always been a kind and compassionate person, hating to see anyone in distress. She has deep empathy for others. Her sweet little spirit has never changed, despite her pain & difficult circumstances. Even with all her hardships, she continues to care deeply and wants to do whatever she can to help alleviate people's burdens. 
No matter where we went, people would gravitate to her bright spirit. Lia was involved in pretty much everything she could be, she had boundless energy. Until one day, when everything changed.

How it All Changed 

Lia was rushed into the intensive care unit with a 105-degree temperature and blood pressure of forty over nothing! Life-flight nurses frantically searched for a vein. She was dying, and nobody knew why. Thanks to their heroic efforts, she survived. 
She had contracted a disease of unknown origin after an ecology trip to Belize with Save the Rainforest. At the age of 14, she had worked hard to earn the money for her honors science trip to Central America. Her amazing experience turned into a nightmare, leaving her with a debilitating illness that kept her from leading a normal life. Life became a painful blur of doctors' visits and treatments that led to little or no improvement. 
Since then she has been left with constant, unrelenting pain from head to toe, along with continual exhaustion & weakness. After a multitude of years without substantial relief, it would be an understatement to say her condition has taken a heavy mental toll on both Lia and those who love her. Of the vast treatments and medications she has been prescribed, little has helped and most have had unfortunate side effects, until the last 2 years working with specialists. Increased fatigue, mental fog, night terrors, and substantial weight control issues are just a few side effects she has dealt with.

Overcoming Challenges

Lia can no longer do many of the things she once loved, such as play sports, working a job, acting in plays, or doing anything that requires consistent long-term health. Though Lia is certainly better than she once was, it is still difficult for most people to understand how ill she really is, often looking fine outwardly. They think she looks “normal,” so she must be well. Nothing would make us all happier than for that to be the case.  

The use of a combination of various Myofascial Release Therapy, Restorative Physical Therapy, Specialists, natural remedies, and prescription medications have helped to improve Lia’s existence. She is no longer completely bedridden, hasn’t needed the use of a wheelchair in years, and no longer feels suicidal. Thank God! 

Lia deserves a truly fulfilling life and has gone as far as she can on her own and with doctors who don't specialize in her diagnosis. She needs the funds to continue to work with physicians who can help her more fully heal and enable her to live the life she was meant to have.

We are so very excited and grateful that Lia was accepted into the Frida Center for Fibromyalgia in Portland, Oregon! For the first time, she has been under the care of specialists for her conditions of Chronic Infections, Joint Hypermobility, Fibromyalgia, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, and coexisting conditions.
The Need

Insurance doesn’t cover any of the specialists or the treatments & medications they prescribe. It is all out of pocket and Lia just cannot afford it with her meager disability benefits.

As hard as it is to ask for assistance, getting the word out is the only way I can help her continue to receive the treatments she so desperately needs. Continual appointments are required for steady progress.

Lia has ongoing issues that need to be addressed. Appointments will continue to be necessary for at least this next year. She had an evaluation appointment in January with the doctor who performs the injections she needs. According to the doctors findings, her complex case will require approximately 10 injection appointments. 

After an appointment with the pelvic floor specialist, Lia has been referred to an Endometriosis Clinic for an evaluation on Feb 17th. The first appointment will cost $650. Subsequent tests and procedures, if required, will go up from there. 

Goals & Aspirations 

Lia continues to dream big and sees herself able to once again work to serve her community. Her goal is to become an Esthetician and Energy Healer to facilitate healing for others.

Lia has somehow, after all these years of pain, managed to retain her vibrant spirit. Don’t get me wrong, she’s been through some pretty dark times, but she pulls through and emerges ever stronger. She is truly my hero. She is grateful for all that she has and realizes her growth in the midst of pain. I don’t understand how she’s done it, I don’t know that I could. It’s finally time for her to realize her dreams and for a better life to begin.
