(WILMETTE) A northwest suburban man died after the vehicle he was driving crashed in to a parked semi on Interstate 94 early Saturday in north suburban Wilmette.

About 4:50 a.m., a Freightliner semi was parked on the right shoulder of northbound I-94 lanes near Skokie Road when a black 2012 Suzuki ran off the road and hit the truck, Illinois State Police said in a statement.

The 30-year-old man (David Castaldo's Brother) driving the Suzuki died at the scene after the crash, authorities said.

He was identified as Michael Castaldo of the 100 block of Wildwood Drive in Round Lake Beach, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

An autopsy performed Sunday determined Castaldo died of multiple injuries in the collision and his death was ruled an accident.

The only passenger in the vehicle had to be extricated and was taken to a hospital, police said.

The right two lanes near the crash site were closed for six hours as police investigated. They were reopened about 11 a.m.
