A message from Charlotte:
When Accidents Unjustly happen...seconds later life changes...
Legally I can’t give certain information but I can tell you I was involved in a very serious car accident on 2/25/21 in Stafford Texas. This can be verified at the Stafford police station. My name is Charlotte Groves. I am 63 yrs old. I can not show the police report online nor disclose the lady’s name who crossed several lanes and did an illegal u-turn in front of me. I had only seconds to react. I locked on the steering wheel managing to turn it slightly to the left to avoid hitting her door directly and possibly killing her. My legs were locked on the brakes. I saw my car approaching hers as if those few seconds were in slow motion. I'm within a few feet now... I closed my eyes. The impact coming was unavoidable. We hit at aproximately 40-45 mph. I managed to call 911. She said she wasn’t hurt. All her airbags deployed. I was hurt. None of my airbags deployed. She had a SUV and I had a Hyundai Elantra. Both of our cars were totaled.
I am learning the hard way how justice and injustice works. And how insurance companies work and don’t work. I didn’t carry PIP on my car insurance so there is no medical help from my insurance company and At the time I had no personal health insurance. It’s been nearly 2 months since that horrible night. So far there has been no acceptance of liability from the other insurance company even though the other driver was faulted. They actually have 2 yrs! It’s shameful when you think about it. I don’t have years though and that’s why I’m sharing this story.
I operated a neuromuscular and conditioning rehab business. I will lose that shortly if I can’t sustain it. I can not work yet and still need months of post concussion rehab and physical therapy to learn how to control my balance and walk. I'm still undergoing orthopedic therapy for my leg and upper extremities and seeing a neurologist. I never dreamed this type of accident ever happens. I can’t even sum it up to being just an irresponsible act...More like stupidity and complete absence of mind act.
I sustained a concussion, 2 slipped discs in my neck, 2 in my back, severe whiplash, jammed my right leg at the hip socket, jammed my right thumb at the wrist and my right shoulder. I lost consciousness and fell due to the concussion and cracked my skull open on the concrete when I stood up. I had 12 staples put in. I had debilitating electric like shocks on the right side of my head and severe stuttering for 8 weeks after this. My balance was gone. I couldn’t walk. My hands shook uncontrollably and I had acquired “trigger finger” on the left hand. I spent 2 nights in the hospital and 3 trips to the emergency room. I’ve had 3 CT scans, and to my knowledge 5 MRI’s. I wear a helmet and walk with a cane now. I'm terrified to drive. I’m grateful my stuttering has almost gone and the shocks have gone. I still have a terrible constant noise in my head. And if that wasn’t enough I now have shingles brought on by the trauma of the accident. That in itself is a living hell. So please get your shingles shot. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. There are no words to describe the pain associated with them.
I believe there are many good hearted people in this world. Probably most people are. I also know that we all have come through very difficult and terrible times this past year due to Covid. That’s what makes this especially hard on all of us.
Well that’s my story. A horrible night that unjustly changed my life completely in seconds and took me down a financial spiraling pit. All I can think is I just want to be me again...have my life back. I want to turn back time. Close my eyes again and reopen them to a brighter day and future.
I want to personally thank everyone for reading and sharing my story. Sharing is a vital form of contribution. I also want to thank all who can financially contribute. I will forever be thankful.
