Urgent Support for Michael Morrison's SLK Transplant
Donation protected
My name is Kristin, and I am looking for help for my husband. My husband was diagnosed with NASH(Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis) of the liver. This scarred his liver to the point of cirrhosis. While his liver maintained its stability throughout many years with medications, tests, a shunt in his liver, etc., the prognosis began to become worse. In 2022, his medical team referred him to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. After searching for different insurances, etc., we finally found one that would cover the costs of most of this type of life-saving surgery.
In April 2023, we made the trip to STL to begin the evaluation process. While it was overwhelming and several days of testing, it was decided that Michael would need a transplant, but more testing needed to be done. Throughout 2023 and the first half of 2024, we have made many trips to STL, while lodging overnight, as travel is hard when the human body is sick and just cannot handle long trips. In July 2024, it was suggested that Michael may need a simultaneous kidney/liver transplant. The team at Barnes worked, did more testing, prepared Michael, and made more appointments.
On Tuesday we received news that Michael has been approved for the kidney/liver transplant and will be placed on the list for organ transplant.
While very hopeful of new organs, there is also stress and worry, as our finances are very tight. If Michael has the opportunity to receive the organs, we will have to relocate to STL for up to 2 months, as we live too far from the hospital for a commute, and per hospital protocol we must be in the area. This is especially complicated when we will not know for a few hours before the actual transplant that we NEED to get to STL.
There is costs for a place to stay, transportation to and from medical appointments after discharge, food, and medication copays.
I am asking for prayers for us on this journey, as Michael has worked so hard to get to this point and get listed on the UNOS, organ sharing transplant list.
We are also asking for donations to help us through this journey. Every dollar helps and no amount is too small.
Michael's health has begun to drastically worsen these past few weeks and we need all of the help we can get. We appreciate everything that everyone does. In advance, thank you, and please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
