Help Cebu Recover: Earthquake Emergency Fund
Hi, my name is Maureen Julia. I’m a proud Cebuana currently living in Canada. I lived in Cebu, Philippines all my life until when I was 25 years old and moved across the world. I feel very privileged to be living my normal life while my fellow countrymen are in a very unfortunate situation.
I'm starting this GoFundMe to raise urgent funds for those affected by the recent 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck my hometown of Cebu, Philippines. One of the strongest earthquakes to have hit in recent years.
While I’m incredibly thankful that my own family is safe, many others were not as fortunate. The earthquake has caused severe damage across the region. Lives have been lost, homes reduced to rubble, and entire communities are still without electricity. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and access to clean water and food is becoming increasingly scarce.
This is the second fundraiser I’ve organized—the first was four years ago to support victims of Typhoon Odette. Once again, I’m reaching out to compassionate hearts to help provide emergency relief, especially food and clean drinking water to those who need it most. My sister and her group of friends have been actively helping in volunteer work to help pack relief packs of non-perishable goods, water, diapers and wipes for the children and anything else that they need.
My plan is to send the money to my sister and she can personally purchase the emergency goods because I prefer knowing where the donations have gone and who is doing it rather than just sending it to whichever volunteer group that is doing the same donation drives.
Your donation, no matter the amount, will go a long way in helping families begin to rebuild their lives after this devastating natural disaster.
Thank you so much for your kindness, support, and generosity. Let’s stand with Cebu during this incredibly difficult time.
