Help a Jamaican Community Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa

Donation protected
I’m raising funds to help friends and neighbors in Windsor Castle, St. Mary, Jamaica, rebuild their lives after Hurricane Melissa, a devastating Category 5 storm that swept across the island on October 27 and 28. Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage to homes, roads, and utilities, destroyed crops, triggered landslides and flash floods, and cut off rural communities from essential resources.

During my Peace Corps service, I had the privilege of living and working in Windsor Castle, a rural farming village in the mountains northwest of Kingston. The community welcomed me with open arms, sharing their homes, their food, and their friendship. Their warmth, generosity, and resilience made my service deeply meaningful and left a lasting impact on my life.

Families in Windsor Castle have lost roofs and suffered significant losses to their livelihoods. Roads across the island are blocked, electricity down, and recovery will take significant time. While aid may eventually reach some areas, rural communities are often among the last to receive direct support.

By contributing to this fundraiser, you can help ensure that real aid reaches real people - families and farmers working tirelessly to rebuild their lives and support their neighbors. Funds will go directly to the Windsor Castle Home Economics Benevolent Society to support:

  • Rebuilding and repairing damaged homes, farms, and small businesses
  • Replacing essential household items, food, and supplies
  • Supporting local farmers and community members most affected by the storm

Once electricity and transportation are restored and funds can be safely transferred, I will share updates on how contributions are being used and the impact they’ve made.

I know many people want to help Jamaica recover, but may not know where to send support or whether it will genuinely reach those in need. This fundraiser offers a way to make sure your generosity has a direct, tangible impact on the lives of those rebuilding from the ground up.

Thank you so much for your compassion, care, and generosity. Every contribution makes a difference.

With gratitude,
Sarah Denison Williams
