It is with the heaviest of hearts that I write this, hoping our family can find even the smallest bit of support and prayer during a time that has shaken us to our core. On 02/12/2026, my brother-in-law, Tong, was detained during what should have been a routine check in. He now faces the terrifying possibility of being deported to Laos — a place he has never called home, a country he has never even known.

Tong’s life began in a refugee camp in Thailand, and before he was even a year old, he was brought legally to the United States — the only home he has ever had. Anyone blessed enough to know him knows the warmth he carries in his spirit. He is the one who lifts others up, the one whose smile brightens a room, the one who cracks jokes when you need them most. He works tirelessly to care for his family. He is a loving father, a devoted partner, and a man whose heart is rooted here.

Our family is devastated. His fiancé and young son depend on him more than words can express. Watching them face this fear — the fear of losing the person who holds their world together — has been heartbreaking beyond measure. We are doing everything we can to stay strong, to stay hopeful, and to pray for a miracle… a miracle that will allow him to stay here, surrounded by the family and community who love him dearly.
