Sherrika's Final Wish: Aid Her Mother
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jennifer Crouch, and I am setting up this GoFundMe for a woman who touched my heart in ways I can’t even put into words—Sherrika Taylor—and for her loving mother, Velvetta Jenkins.
If you know me, you know how much these two incredible women meant to me. Sherrika was more than just a client—she became family. She was a woman of strength, resilience, and unwavering determination. A retired Army veteran, she selflessly served her country, spending a year in Iraq from 2002 to 2003. Her service took a toll on her health, and on April 1st, 2021, she underwent a double lung transplant. Despite the challenges she faced daily, she never stopped fighting. She had dreams, she had goals, and she had a heart full of love.
One of her biggest dreams was to own her very first home—a place where she and her mother could feel safe, secure, and at peace. She worked so hard to make that dream a reality, and on November 4th, just days before her birthday, she finally held the keys to her new home in her hands. It was a moment of pure joy, one that she had fought so hard for.
But heartbreakingly, on Thursday, February 13, 2025, Sherrika’s journey came to an end. She took her last breath with her mother, Velvetta, by her side—just as she had been every step of the way. Even in death, Sherrika continued to give. As an organ donor, she made the ultimate sacrifice, ensuring that others would have a second chance at life. That’s just who she was—selfless, loving, and full of light.
To honor her service and her final act of generosity, the hospital held a Walk of Honor as Sherrika was taken to fulfill her wish of being a donor. It was a deeply moving tribute, recognizing not only her sacrifice for this country but also her willingness to give even in her final moments.
I am asking for your help in honoring Sherrika’s memory by easing the financial burden on her mother. These funds will go toward her funeral expenses and helping Ms. Velvetta stay in the home they fought so hard to get—at least until she has time to grieve and figure out the next steps.
No amount is too small, and if you’re unable to donate, please share this with others who may be able to help. Let’s come together as a community to support a woman who gave so much of herself to others and a mother who now needs us more than ever.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your love, kindness, and generosity.
