Save Big Guy: Diagnostic Procedure Needed

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Paige, and I am a devoted veterinary technician in need of support.

A few months ago, a good Samaritan brought in a cat to the veterinary hospital where I work who was in dire need of help. The cat, who now goes by the name of “Big Guy,” was found alone outside with a significant wound to his head. Based on the nature of the injury, we believe he may have been attacked by a larger predator while wandering outdoors.

What initially appeared to be a straightforward wound turned into a much longer journey. The injury was far more extensive than anticipated and required over a month of treatment and care before it finally healed. Through it all, Big Guy remained incredibly gentle, trusting, and affectionate.

Once his wound healed, we thought the hardest part was behind us, but unfortunately, that’s when a new and even more complicated medical challenge began.

Big Guy developed chronic regurgitation and has struggled to consistently keep food down. He can only tolerate blended-up and watered-down wet cat food and must be hand-fed at least 4 times a day. He is currently on a motility medication to help keep his GI tract moving, a laxative, and a calorie supplement.

Despite his condition, Big Guy is still so playful, spunky, gentle, and incredibly affectionate. He loves attention, seeks out cuddles, and acts like a cat who has no idea how sick he truly is.

I have spent months pursuing answers for Big Guy. He has undergone extensive diagnostics, imaging, bloodwork, hospitalization, and treatment trials under veterinary supervision. We have ruled out many possible causes, but despite our efforts, we still do not have a diagnosis.

The next recommended step is transferring him to Internal Medicine for a further work-up and an endoscopy. This specialized procedure will allow veterinarians to examine his gastrointestinal tract and collect tissue samples that could finally tell us what is causing his illness. This procedure offers the best chance of obtaining a diagnosis and developing a treatment plan that could significantly improve his quality of life.

As someone who works in the veterinary field, I have exhausted the resources available to me and have personally funded as much of his care as possible. Unfortunately, I have reached a point where I cannot continue this journey alone.

Surrendering Big Guy IS NOT AN OPTION due to the extensive medical care he requires. His chances of finding another placement are low, and surrendering him elsewhere may result in euthanasia due to lack of funding. Again, NOT AN OPTION I entertain even in the slightest.

Big Guy has already survived so much. He survived whatever caused his devastating head wound. He endured weeks of treatment, surgery, and recovery. Through every procedure, every medication, and every setback, he has remained loving, gentle, and trusting.

He deserves the chance to keep fighting.

Every donation will go directly toward:
• Endoscopy procedure
• Biopsy collection and pathology review
• Anesthesia and hospitalization costs
• Specialist consultation fees
• Ongoing treatment based on the results

If you are unable to donate, sharing Big Guy’s story would mean the world to me! Every share gives him another opportunity to reach someone willing to help.

Thank you for believing that Big Guy’s life is worth fighting for. ❤️‍
