Ruby's Fundraiser for Cancer Treatment

Many of us who knew Ruby may be shocked to hear that she is very sick. Ruby Nicdao was diagnosed with MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome). MDS is a type of cancer that affects the bone marrow. Ruby has been receiving blood transfusions to keep her red blood cell count up but, she needs more serious help and fast.

Countless Northern Virginia pro-lifers know and love Ruby for her constant efforts to bring about a culture of life in Northern Virginia. She was on the ground floor when 40 Days for Life first went national by bringing it to Falls Church, VA for its first national campaign. She has been indispensable to organizing a prayerful, peaceful presence at different Northern Virginia abortion facilities for decades and has trained many to follow in her stead.

I first met Ruby when I was in high school. I was immediately attracted to the peaceful, rational and charitable way she lived out her pro-life activities. Because of this, she was a huge part of me getting involved in praying outside of abortion facilities, sidewalk counseling and organizing prayer vigils myself. I have always known her to be “tough as nails” while having a wonderful effervescent personality at the same time. She is very quiet about her own needs and is loathed to ask for help when she most needs it. This is why I and many others who love her are setting up a GoFundMe page on her behalf.

So, what’s happening right now? She is working with her doctors to figure out the next steps and she will likely need a bone marrow transplant. Already she has racked up a bill of $26,000 and it’s just going to get bigger from there. This page is trying to raise $75,000 to cover her expenses in this difficult time for her.

This amount will let Ruby get the care she needs at the crucial early stages of the disease without worrying about a debilitating medical debt later on. She can explore her medical options without worrying about the cost.

Ruby has touched the lives of so many people, it is my hope that she can count on our support.
