Please help me to help my son. My name is Rob, and my son's name is Jon. I will try to be brief yet descriptive here as I give a background into our situation. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's as a child and has been handling it better every year. I was diagnosed with cancer (Bladder Adenocarcenoma) in 2017. On December 20, 2022, we lost his mom to a brain aneurism. On may 2nd, it was decided that any and all cancer treatments have unfortunately failed, and the cancer is now in my liver, lungs, outside the bladder and sacrum. Since the prognosis is estimated at 6 months, it was decided that I enter into hospice. Now I need to keep up with household expenses while I do my best to prepare my son to be on his own when the time unfortunately comes for me to move on.
Jon is attending a local college for IT and made the dean's list his first year. He is enrolled in summer courses and registered for year two of four in the fall. I couldn't be more proud!!
My current disability income, with a lot of discretion, covers our monthly needs, but rent has become very difficult to say the least. We lost Jon's Survivor Benefit when he graduated high school last year, which has put insane stress on us to keep up with the rent. Currently, I'm ashamed to say that we are three months behind and falling fast. I am applying for all assistance I can. The state turned us down, so I have looked to private groups for help. But that Help is not a regular income and only a once or twice possibility each year.
I'm asking family, friends and caring strangers alike for any help they can provide without creating any hardship on themselves. There a people who can spare $5, as well as people who can spare $5,000, and my hope is that folks will contribute what they can, check in for updates I will provide on a regular basis, and hopefully donate more than once. Every penny we receive will be used solely for rent payments since I have managed to cover all other daily expenses by other means, as well as possibly help Jon to set himself up in a small place when my unfortunate time comes. I try to concentrate more on spending all the time I can with him so I can do my best to prepare him to succeed on his own moving forward. I never imagined his mother would pass how and when she did, and that he would be alone after I move on.
Anyway, I thank one and all for your time reading our story, and can't thank you enough for any and all help you can provide. The $10,000 goal I set is obviously a complete guess as I have no idea what the future holds. Please check back for updates when you can. Thank you so much for your time again, and for any and all help you can provide. Please live life as best as you can, because I'm proof that anything can happen at any time.
One note about donating. When I have donated to others in the past, I do it anonymously. To each his/her own vanity, and I do not judge anyone by any means. I personally am not interested in who gives what, I am thrilled at the thought of any help coming my way. But I would feel bad if someone gives based on what someone else has given, especially if it causes any strain on them. So please do what feels best for you, always! Thank you so much again!!
