Family, friends and generous strangers, it is with a very heavy heart that I reach out to you for any help you may be able to offer.
Last September, my amazing brother, Patrick Murphy, was diagnosed with cancer. Pat is married to a wonderful woman, Kim; he is uncle & godfather to both of my kids, Maggie & Max; a doting son to his mother, Denise and his stepfather, Jim; and a HUGE animal lover who usually has several rescues dogs at any given time.
Patrick is the nicest man I know. He and his wife, Kim, have lived in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago for more than two decades. Pat is always the first one to step up and help family, friends or neighbors in need. He is that neighbor - the one who helps shovel others' sidewalks; is the first to lend a hand to fix leaky roofs, repair broken faucets, or help paint.
Pat has spent a lifetime helping others but now he is the one who needs help.
Pat's fight against cancer has placed him under enormous financial stress. Pat & Kim are self-employed. They both continue to work as treatment schedules and the side effects of chemotherapy allow. However, the mounting medical bills have exhausted all of their savings and retirement funds. Health insurance premiums alone are currently $1,700 per month .
Many people have reached out asking how they can help and we are all searching for ways to help. We hope this Go Fund Me campaign will be part of the answer.
