Veterinary bills for Roo

My name is Michael Lindstrom and on Christmas day, my Australian Shepherd, Roo, was given the heartworm preventative medicine, Ivomec. Unfortunately, at the time I was unaware that Ivomec contains the drug Ivermectin which is extremely toxic for about 50% of Australian Shepherds due to a gene mutation. A few hours later I noticed Roo acting extremely uncoordinated, drooling excessively and twitching so I rushed him to the ER vet. He experienced a seizure upon his arrival and I then found out that he was blind and experiencing ivermectin toxicity. From that night on he needed to be under 24hr supervision where he received interlipid treatments along with IV fluids and a catheter. Due to his severe tremors he was heavily sedated. After four days of not eating he then had to undergo a surgery to insert a feeding tube in order to get nutrition. The next day the vet told me he believed Roo was developing pneumonia due to his recumbency and referred me to a different vet. I then had to take Roo to an internal medicine specialist to get x-rays and special attention. The x-rays came back negative for pneumonia but Roo had to stay there for another two days as he was still unable to walk. He made significant strides towards his recovery and was released to come home where I am able to stay with him and nurture him back to a full recovery. He has regained some of his vision and is able to walk with assistance but still needs my constant supervision as well as check ups with the vet to ensure he is making good progress.

Unfortunately due to this extremely necessary and attentive care, his vet bills climbed rather quickly and reached just over $6,000. I could use any assistance to pay off Roo's vet bills. It would mean so much to me if I am able to raise any money at all for this wonderful dog of mine. He really is one of the happiest dogs you could ever meet and has the biggest play drive I have ever seen.
