Help Nolan Navigate Colitis Surgery

My dear friend Nolan has been dealing with Ulcerative Colitis for 25 years, almost as long as we’ve known each other. Diagnosed in his early twenties, Nolan has spent his adult life facing the numerous challenges of this disease with dignity and stoicism. His last major surgery in 2005 unfortunately involved complications, which resulted in a very long recovery time and forced him to move from his home in Cape Breton to the HRM to be near the medical facilities he's needed since that time.

Nolan is now faced with another extensive surgery next month (May 2024), and this time he has reached out for help – which isn’t an easy thing for many of us to do. With all of the uncertainties and risks involved in bowel surgery Nolan has a lot on his plate, and I jumped at the opportunity to act on his behalf. Nolan’s career as a professional Red Seal electrician means his job is quite physical, and he will obviously need to take time away from work while he recovers. He will be without income and need help on several fronts during the months of recuperation ahead of him; including paying rent, groceries, medication, and possibly travel to/ from Cape Breton where his family and support network is located.

I have watched my cherished friend suffer the physical and emotional turmoil of struggling with this disease, and I’m hoping that with your help we can relieve some of the financial burden of this upcoming surgery.
