Help Nadine Crush Stage 3 Cancer!

Donation protected
Thank you in advance for any donation you choose to give to Nadine. Nadine has been diagnosed with a type of squamous cell cancer that is not glamorous or common and is a real pain in the arse, and that’s all we’re going to say on that… She found out she had cancer in October of 2019 after going to see the doctor because she was in considerable pain. A few tests later confirmed the news that you never want to hear from a doctor, “You have stage three cancer…”. There is a light at the end of the tunnel though, the type of cancer she has is very treatable and there is an 85% chance that the treatment protocol the doctors recommend will eradicate it on the first try. The course of treatment began on December 2, 2019 and is expected to conclude sometime before the summer of 2020. (We will keep you posted on her progress throughout this process.) That being said, it is an expensive treatment program that includes chemotherapy and radiation, which her current insurance only partially covers. Your donation will go a long way no matter how insignificant you think it is. All funds will be used to pay for the unplanned medical bills related to Nadine’s treatment and will allow her to fight this battle without having to stress as much about “things” and just focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.

Nadine’s own light shines bright because she was blessed with more creative talent in her little finger than most people have in their whole body! She knows her way around a sewing machine, she amazes everyone at her work when she updates the holiday displays, her cookies, candies and pies are a welcome treat all year long and her cakes… oh my goodness her delicious cake creations are a sight to see! She has made every flavor of cake imaginable in every design that has been asked for, be it: a Minion, a group of succulent plants, a cheeseburger, a pile of pillows, or a birch tree stump – complete with tree rings and edible peeling bark no less! – just to name a few of her wacky creations! She’s also made more traditional multi-tiered wedding and anniversary cakes that overflow with hand-made flowers and icing decorations that are designed so artistically you would think she took years of classes, but the truth is – she’s self-taught! She doesn’t stop at being a cake lady though. Nadine is also a Eucharistic minister, an Ironman athlete (just kidding! ), a pianist who serenades us (at home) and also the Alzheimer’s residents at her workplace, in addition to that she worked the front of the house in the food service industry for decades before starting to work with the elderly. Her dedication to serving others is right in line with how she lives her life – others before self.

She is so used to making others happy it’s sometimes like pulling teeth to convince her to go out and buy something for herself even when it’s necessary. She is always smiling, caring, listening, and loving everyone that crosses her path – she’ll never change, and we all love that about her. She lives her life with the glass half full mentality and even though she is faced with this ominous challenge, she considers it, “A small bump in the road,” and says that there’s, “Still tons more life to live,” this coming from a grandmother! She’s amazing and we’d like to keep her around for a good long while. Your support will help us do just that!

Another one of the lights in Nadine’s life is her family - us! Nadine’s life up until now has been filled with the laughter and mischief of her five children, who are now grown adults living all over the Northeast. She also has seven beautiful grandchildren and an ever doting husband. Nadine is no stranger to large families (being the middle child of seven herself) and she has seemingly endless patience as a wife, mother and grandmother. One of her siblings has recently triumphed over their own battle with cancer and Nadine rallied by their side through it all. She traveled from Maine to Connecticut to attend many of the fundraising events, created gift baskets to raffle off, provided company when nothing else would do, lent an ear when a phone was all they had to connect them, and exuded love and support to cheer them on during their treatments. Family support is the most important thing during trials like these and ours is pretty darn great, although, our family did get a little smaller this year. Her father passed away. He was such a great man and the patriarch of the family – he is sorely missed. Nadine’s loving, devoted husband has been by her side through both the good times and the hard times. While he has been by her side for the last 40+ years, he is physically disabled and has had a fixed income through Social Security Disability for many years. Again, this is where your donation will be heartily appreciated!

Thank you for caring about Nadine, we appreciate the time it took for you to read this. We hope that she has touched your life in a positive way. Any support you can offer, be it monetary or emotional, means the world to Nadine and us. The bills may continue to pile up after the insurance company pays their part but life will go on and the support from you and everyone else will remain in her heart as she continues to live her best life after she traverses this “bump in the road”. Please share this message whenever you get a chance with everyone that loves: cake, candy, cookies, family, or even if they simply prefer a jammin’ musical interlude and know that you are appreciated! Here’s to letting Nadine bake ton’s more cakes after cutting this cancer out of her life!
