Our family friend, Sonny Wright, was just 16 years old when he suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident that left him a paraplegic.
As you might imagine Sonny has faced many challenges through the years. He is approaching his 52nd birthday and the last couple of years have presented an exceptional number of health obstacles.
Sonny's independent lifestyle has always allowed him to live, travel and work on his own. Of course, this means he has to transfer himself in/out of bed, bath, truck, drive and manage his wheelchair. Last year he tore his bicep, which meant he could no longer take care of all his needs without assistance and surgery.
The road to surgery was long due to insurance obstacles. In that recovery process an intestinal problem required additional surgery and rehab. Which also meant no work for several months. He is back at home now and doing much better. His surgeries will take months to heal and he needs to regain some of his independence and get back to work and a productive life...physically and mentally!!!
There are several pieces of equipment that could help Sonny make this transition. A lift in his house and a lift for his pick up truck. The cost of these items are approximately $14,200.
