Marc and I are the proud parents of Lucas, a 12-year-old boy who has bravely faced the challenges of a rare genetic disorder since birth. This condition has left him blind and presented various other physical and serious medical challenges. Despite these hurdles, Lucas discovered a sense of freedom and happiness in swimming. It's the one place where he feels unbound by the constraints of his condition—where he can move without pain or fear of the unseen.
Lucas loves the water; it's his sanctuary and his playground. Unlike his peers, Lucas can't join in typical childhood activities like riding a bike or playing tag in the park. His condition limits his walking to brief periods before pain overtakes his joy. Yet, in the water, Lucas transforms. He swims with a smile, liberated from his daily struggles and safe from the risk of falling.
Lucas has been through so much medically and he will continue to have extraordinary expenses when it comes to equipment and medical bills. We don't want to ask for help with that. We would rather have those who want to help, contribute to something fun, positive and uplifting; something with a purpose.
This past July we moved to a new home. We dream of creating a space where Lucas can thrive—a therapy pool tailored for all seasons right in our backyard. This pool would not just be a source of constant joy for Lucas but a crucial part of his physical therapy, helping to enhance his mobility and quality of life.
What Will the Funds Be Used For? Every donation will go directly towards installing this all-season therapy pool, ensuring Lucas can access his happiest moments any day of the year, regardless of the weather.
