In January 2026, I stepped into the role of Director at Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary with a clear vision for the future of Liberia’s only multi-species rescue center.
Working with the local Forestry Development Authority (FDA), we provide a haven for animals confiscated from the illegal bushmeat and pet trades. Currently we provide specialized care for over 150 animals across 30+ different species, and have been releasing 500+ back into the wild since our establishment in 2017.
The Logistics of Life-Saving
At LiWiSa, our residents—from pangolins and primates to reptiles and antelopes—depend on us to meet their nutritional requirements. Keeping the sanctuary running requires a massive, consistent supply of fresh food. Every week we buy:
-20 branches of bananas and plantain, plus bundles of sugarcane and oranges for natural sugars
-120kg of potatoes and cucumbers
-50kg of lentils, peanuts, and essential grains
-Over 100kg of nutrient-dense soursop, papaya, and mango
-6kg Fish & 6 Chicken for the carnivores
How You Can Help
I am reaching out to our community to help us maintain our high standard of care. Food security would also give us more time for educational campaigns and other outreach. We are the last line of defense for these animals and one of few places in Liberia advocating for wildlife protection.
Every contribution goes directly toward our $2,200 monthly food bill, ensuring that each of our 180+ residents has a full bowl and a fighting chance.
Thank you
