In January 2026, I stepped into the role of Director at Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary with a clear vision for the future of Liberia’s only multi-species rescue center.
Working with the local FDA, we provide a haven for animals rescued from the illegal bushmeat and pet trades. We currently provide specialized care for over 150 animals across 30+ different species, all on their journey toward recovery.
However, the start of this year has brought significant financial hurdles: we have recently lost two of our major foundational grants. While we are working tirelessly to secure new long-term partnerships, the immediate reality is that we are facing a critical funding gap for our daily operations.
The Logistics of Life-Saving
At LiWiSa, our residents—from pangolins and sootys to reptiles and antelopes—depend on us for specialized nutrition that meets their unique biological needs. Keeping the sanctuary running requires a massive, consistent supply of fresh food. Bulk Staples: 120kg of potatoes and cucumbers to provide hydration and fiber. Every week we procure
- 20 large branches of bananas and plantain, plus bundles of sugarcane and oranges for natural sugars.
- 50kg of lentils, peanuts, and essential grains for sustained health.
- Over 100kg of nutrient-dense soursop, papaya, and mango—essential for our more sensitive species like pangolins and primates.
How You Can Help
My name is Finn, and I am reaching out to our community to help us maintain our high standard of care during this transition. We are the last line of defense for these animals in Liberia, and we refuse to let a temporary gap in grant funding impact their health or their journey toward release.
Your support right now is vital. Every contribution goes directly toward our $2,200 monthly food bill, ensuring that every one of our 180+ residents has a full bowl and a fighting chance.
