Lamar Bonet is an eclectic 22-year-old Black man who was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (BP) at 7 years old. Bipolar Disorder is a mental disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, concentration, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks. While this disorder is far more expansive than a short denotation can give, these symptoms have drastically affected Lamar’s well-being and ability to live a stable life.
As a result of these symptoms, unemployment ensued and Lamar has experienced strings of homelessness on and off for the past few years. His disorder has negatively impacted his ability to maintain a job and without the funds, he has been unable to continue the treatment that would be imperative to him living a stable life. Lamar Bonet began doing Uber Eats via bike in February but on October 8th he was in an accident and, without medical insurance, left unable to cover the remaining medical expenses and continue working.
Lamar is also a father of toddlers; two beautiful twin girls and has been unable to effectively be a consistent presence in their lives due to the symptoms of his disorder. He has recently found free treatment but cannot cover the expenses that would allow him to continue treatment considering it is only temporary without government assistance.
At the least, if he receives little assistance, Lamar is hoping to share his experience and spread more information on what Bipolar Disorder can look like and how it can and has directly affected those who have it. In the absolute best-case scenario, he hopes to put the funds towards relocating to a safe stable household by December 15th and being able to get back on treatment and back on his feet. This would allow him the comfort of knowing he can also maintain a healthy presence in his children’s lives and have, as he put it, “a peace of mind.”
