Support Kevin's Recovery and Dental Care

Hey guys, this is for our sweet kitty Kevin (he’s almost 4 years old). Noah adopted him a little over two years ago from Harper’s Animal Clinic. He had been dumped there and needed care, which is why he only has one eye. They kept him as a clinic cat for a bit and then chose to adopt him out, and when they did, Noah found him and adopted him.

Since then, I’ve come along, and we’ve also adopted a kitten named Ghost. A couple of days after adopting Ghost, Kevin unfortunately started to become sick — sneezing, congested, and hacking, with a goopy nose and eyes. We immediately rushed him to the vet, and they said it was an upper respiratory infection as well as gingivitis.

Noah spent what little he had saved on the first couple of vet visits because it wasn’t seeming to go away. We were then fortunate to be able to use a CareCredit card (thanks to Noah’s amazing mother) to help us continue going to the vet when needed. But Kevin still wasn’t getting better, no matter what we did.

One weekend, he was mouth-breathing and barely breathing. We were told to take him to the emergency vet, so we did. We rushed over an hour away, and they said it was the same thing but that he would also need to be tested for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus). They sent us home with orders to take him back to our vet the next day.

Even though the emergency vet visit was a nearly $800 bill, we took him to our vet the next day. Sure enough, Kevin still had a really bad upper respiratory infection, but now he was also confirmed to have FIV. They said he probably has had it since he was a kitten and likely got it from his mom when he was born. Since he was originally a stray, he was probably never tested for it.

All we could do was wait it out and keep treating the URI, since FIV is permanent. He can still live a happy life, but he’s prone to secondary infections, and if we don’t catch them early, it will be difficult for him to fight them off. He got better but then got worse again, and we took him back to our vet. It was another URI, so we treated him for that and got him his needed vaccines.

We want to take care of Kevin and give him our all, and we don’t want to have to rehome him and stress him out (we also love him and don’t want to lose him). But at the same time, we owe so much in vet bills to CareCredit that we have to pay off before it starts charging us interest, and we also just took him back today and now have another almost $800 pending bill for his dental work (in total we will owe around $1300 once it’s not pending.)

Making this GoFundMe is the last thing we wanted to do, but we are struggling between bills, life in general, and now all of this. If anyone can donate, we would greatly appreciate it — and so would Kevin. The photos show the vet visits we’ve used the CareCredit card for, what we owe on that card, as well as the payments we’ve already made.

We are trying to pay off the CareCredit card, and if there’s any extra made, it will immediately go toward Kevin’s care. I understand if you can’t donate, but if you can share this around, maybe someone you know can help. Every dollar helps; every share, like, or comment helps. Thanks in advance to anyone who took the time to listen, and thanks to anyone who chooses to help us.
