How did the idea of Green Road Refill start? In the spring of 2017, I finished paying off my student loans, and with a new sense of freedom, came a new sense of mission. I’ve always been drawn to nature and the arts. I grew up in western New York, and we were always camping and hiking. This gave me a deep appreciation and respect for the environment. These days, it’s easy to feel helpless when thinking about the health of our planet. But I believe we can make small changes in our lifestyles that will make a significantly positive impact on our world. With the financial burden of my loans behind me, I realized now is the time to focus my energy on a cause that I believe in. And then I had a dream.
In my dream, I owned a store that made people feel good when they were shopping – like they were making a difference. I awoke from the dream and wrote it all down in detail and have been diligently and literally working toward making my dream come true.
What’s the Green Road Refill’s progress report? I am glad you asked! In the fall of 2017, I purchased a retired mini school bus, and named her Bettie (named after my spunky grandmother). My lovely husband, personal mechanic, carpenter and all around biggest supporter, Justin, and I have gutted and designed the inside of Bettie. She also received some much-needed TLC under her hood. We can’t wait until the weather gets a little nicer to start the big paint makeover - transforming her now yellow skin to a luscious green! On the business end, I have been involved in the WE CAN Pathmaker Program. It’s been an amazing experience - always keeping me focused and building my self-confidence while taking on this new adventure. I have met with financial advisors and local SCORE. I’ve researched my products, set up my LLC, opened a business account, purchased my insurance, and joined the Brewster Chamber of Commerce. I have been in communication with local craft, home and garden, and farmers markets about partnering, and Bettie will be riding in the Brewster in Bloom parade! I’m finalizing my spring/summer schedule, and soon it will be posted on my website (www.GreenRoadRefill.com) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/greenroadrefill/).
Why go fund me? It’s time for the rubber to hit the road. I need to finish work on the bus, buy my inventory, and get started saving the world! Your help will enable me to buy gallons and gallons of earth-friendly soaps, shampoos, cleaners, sun screen, and other products that are good for you and our planet. Your funds will also help me puchase paint for Bettie and other stock such as plant-based biodegradable garbage bags, cups and plates, bamboo toothbrushes, kitchen gadgets, alternatives to plastic wrap, all natural femine care, and much more!
It's really hard for me to ask for financial help, but I really believe in the crowd-sourcing that Go Fund Me offers, and I am looking to pay it forward as soon as I get up and running. Go Fund Me allows me to see who my donors are, and I will be offering discounts and coupons to all of my investment angels.
Look for Green Road Refill this Spring! I’m looking forward to seeing you all over the Cape this spring and summer. Look for the green bus and the crowd of like-minded people. Thank you so much for your support in making my dream come true - my heart is full of hope and graitude!
