Help Haley Hear is our campaign to raise money for our friend Haley’s Baja cochlear implantation surgery!
Haley is a wife, amazing mom of two, Medical Assistant for a Peds Clinic, and has struggled with her hearing her whole life.
Haley was born with a cleft lip and palate. She was in and out of surgeries all through her childhood and early adulthood. It is very common for people born with a cleft palate to also experience lots of issues with their ears, as well as hearing loss, and Haley is no exception. She had a hearing aid when she was younger, but it got to a point where a traditional one wasn’t good enough because her hearing loss was so severe.
Haley had a surgery August 28th, 2019, that was going to try to help, but it was a possibility that it would also make it worse. The doctor was pretty sure it would help. It didn’t; it got worse. Way worse. She struggles with hearing in her everyday life, including hearing her coworkers, her patients, and her sweet babies. Things are even more difficult now, in the era of COVID-19, as people are wearing masks as necessary, but she relies heavily on reading lips as you speak to her.
So now her option is just to have the Baja cochlear implanted. The Baja device itself costs $4500, which has to be paid in full up front. Then you add on the costs of the facility and supplies for the surgery, the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and the 2-4 weeks recovery time that she’ll be out of work, and we’ll... You can see how this adds up! They are trying to get her insurance to cover the surgery, but it’s very unsure if they will. Even if they do, however, Haley will still owe towards her deductible and her coinsurance up to her out-of-pocket, as well as still missing work for recover.
Her surgery date is August 10th. There’s a lot of time between now and then, so a lot of time to raise enough money to help her, James, and the kids out! Any tiny bit helps! Thanks in advance!
