Hello everyone,
My name is Leonardo Gil, and I’m reaching out to you not for myself — but for someone much smaller and far braver than I will ever be.
His name is Dante. He’s my 7-year-old nephew.
And right now, he is fighting for his life.
Who Is Dante?
Dante lives in Saltillo, Mexico. He’s the oldest of three siblings and just welcomed a baby sister into the world. In his short life, he’s already been a gentle protector to his younger brother and now the proudest big brother to his baby sister.
He has always been sunshine in human form: joyful, curious, compassionate — a kid who makes friends wherever he goes. He loves to laugh, and he makes others laugh. He’s that kind of kid. A true light in dark places.
He also has a quiet strength. His mom Renata, who has long lived with chronic illness, says that Dante is her reason to keep going. Even at his young age, he’s shown a kind of emotional courage that children should never have to develop — but somehow, he did.
The Diagnosis
In early June, Dante started having severe headaches. At first, his mom thought they were from the stress of learning to read at school. But the pain wouldn’t go away.
Three days later, a CT scan revealed something no one could have prepared for:
- A 2 cm tumor in his cerebellum
- A 4 cm cyst pressing on his brain
- Hydrocephalus – brain swelling caused by pressure
The tumor is in the posterior fossa, the part of the brain that controls balance and movement. Since being hospitalised on June 18, his condition has worsened:
- He veers when walking — sometimes can't walk at all
- His hands tremble
- His pupils are dilated
- He no longer has the energy to get out of bed
Despite all this, he smiles when he can, and keeps trying to be strong for his little siblings.
A Cruel Delay
The first attempt at surgery was scheduled — but had to be cancelled mid-procedure.
Yes, mid-op.
His head was already shaved. The first incision had been made. But the hospital discovered they did not have the correct instruments to complete the surgery.
He was sent back to his hospital bed — in pain, with a fresh wound, and no clear date for the next attempt.
Why We’re Asking for Help
Dante does not have health insurance, and his family is already drowning in debt — even though they are using the most affordable state hospital in Mexico.
We are trying to raise €50,000 EUR (approx. $54,000 USD or 1M MXN) to cover:
- Surgery and hospitalisation
- Post-op care and medication
- Rehabilitation and therapies
- Imaging, labs, and ongoing treatment
That number is low only because the care is being provided in a developing country. In Europe or the U.S., it would likely be three times higher.
Dante spent his birthday in the hospital - he turned 7 in a hospital bed.
Instead of playing with balloons or eating cake, he was trying to understand why his head hurt so badly, and why his mom — his hero — couldn’t stop crying. But he still managed to smile for a photo. That’s who Dante is.

Su nombre es Dante. Es mi sobrino de 7 años.
Y en este momento, está luchando por su vida.
¿Quién es Dante?
Dante vive en Saltillo, México. Es el mayor de tres hermanos y recientemente dio la bienvenida a una nueva hermanita. En su corta vida, ya ha sido un protector cariñoso para su hermanito, y ahora es el hermano mayor más orgulloso del mundo.
Siempre ha sido como un rayo de sol: alegre, curioso, compasivo — un niño que hace amigos donde sea que va. Le encanta reír y hacer reír a los demás. Es de esos niños especiales. Una luz en los momentos más oscuros.
También tiene una fuerza tranquila. Su mamá, Renata, que ha vivido con una enfermedad crónica durante años, dice que Dante es su razón para seguir adelante. A pesar de su corta edad, Dante ha demostrado una valentía emocional que ningún niño debería necesitar — pero él la tiene.
El Diagnóstico
A principios de junio, Dante comenzó a tener dolores de cabeza intensos. Al principio, su mamá pensó que eran por el estrés de aprender a leer en la escuela. Pero el dolor no se iba.
Tres días después, una tomografía reveló algo para lo que nadie estaba preparado:
- Un tumor de 2 cm en el cerebelo
- Un quiste de 4 cm presionando su cerebro
- Hidrocefalia – inflamación del cerebro por presión
El tumor está en la fosa posterior, una zona que controla el equilibrio y los movimientos. Desde que fue hospitalizado el 18 de junio, su estado ha empeorado:
- Camina desviado — a veces no puede caminar
- Sus manos tiemblan
- Sus pupilas están dilatadas
- Ya no tiene energía para levantarse de la cama
Aun así, sonríe cuando puede y sigue tratando de ser fuerte para sus hermanitos.
Una Cruel Demora
La primera cirugía ya estaba programada — pero fue cancelada a la mitad del procedimiento.
Sí, a la mitad de la operación.
Su cabeza ya estaba rapada. Ya le habían hecho la primera incisión. Pero el hospital descubrió que no tenían los instrumentos adecuados para terminar la cirugía.
Lo regresaron a su cama — con dolor, una herida reciente, y sin fecha para el próximo intento.
¿Por Qué Pedimos Ayuda?
Dante no tiene seguro médico, y su familia ya enfrenta deudas importantes — a pesar de estar en el hospital estatal más accesible del país.
Estamos tratando de recaudar 50,000 euros (aprox. $54,000 USD o 1 millón de pesos mexicanos) para cubrir:
- Cirugía y hospitalización
- Medicación y cuidados posteriores
- Rehabilitación y terapias
- Estudios, análisis y tratamiento continuo
La cifra parece baja solo porque está siendo tratado en un país en desarrollo. En Europa o EE.UU., sería probablemente tres veces más alta.
Dante pasó su cumpleaños en el hospital - cumplió 7 años en una cama de hospital.
En lugar de jugar con globos o comer pastel, intentaba entender por qué le dolía tanto la cabeza, y por qué su mamá — su heroína — no podía dejar de llorar.
Aun así, sonrió para una foto. Así es Dante.

Hallo zusammen,
Mein Name ist Leonardo Gil, und ich wende mich an euch — nicht für mich, sondern für jemanden, der viel kleiner und viel mutiger ist, als ich es je sein könnte.
Sein Name ist Dante. Er ist mein 7-jähriger Neffe.
Und im Moment kämpft er ums Überleben.
Wer ist Dante?
Dante lebt in Saltillo, Mexiko. Er ist der älteste von drei Geschwistern und hat gerade ein neues Schwesterchen bekommen. In seinem jungen Leben war er bereits ein liebevoller Beschützer für seinen kleinen Bruder – und jetzt ein stolzer großer Bruder für seine Baby-Schwester.
Er war schon immer wie Sonnenschein auf zwei Beinen: fröhlich, neugierig, einfühlsam – ein Kind, das überall Freunde findet. Er liebt das Lachen – und bringt andere zum Lachen. So ein Kind ist er. Ein echtes Licht in dunklen Zeiten.
Er hat auch eine stille Stärke. Seine Mutter Renata, die selbst seit Jahren mit einer chronischen Krankheit lebt, sagt, Dante sei ihr Grund, weiterzumachen. Trotz seines Alters hat er eine emotionale Stärke gezeigt, die Kinder eigentlich nie haben sollten – aber er hat sie.
Die Diagnose
Anfang Juni bekam Dante starke Kopfschmerzen. Zuerst dachte seine Mutter, es sei der Stress des Lesenlernens in der Schule. Aber der Schmerz ging nicht weg.
Am dritten Tag, brachte ein CT-Scan eine schockierende Wahrheit ans Licht:
- Ein 2 cm großer Tumor im Kleinhirn
- Eine 4 cm große Zyste, die auf sein Gehirn drückt
- Hydrozephalus – Schwellung im Gehirn durch Druck
Der Tumor liegt in der hinteren Schädelgrube, einem Bereich, der Gleichgewicht und Bewegung steuert. Seit seiner Einlieferung am 18. Juni hat sich sein Zustand verschlechtert:
- Er läuft unsicher – manchmal kann er gar nicht laufen
- Seine Hände zittern
- Seine Pupillen sind stark erweitert
- Er hat keine Kraft mehr, aus dem Bett aufzustehen
Und doch – lächelt er, wann immer er kann, und versucht, stark zu sein für seine kleinen Geschwister.
Ein grausamer Rückschlag
Die erste Operation war bereits angesetzt – doch sie wurde während des Eingriffs abgebrochen.
Sein Kopf war schon rasiert. Der erste Schnitt wurde bereits gemacht. Doch dann stellte das Krankenhaus fest, dass nicht alle nötigen Instrumente vorhanden waren.
Also wurde Dante zurück ins Bett gebracht – mit Schmerzen, einer frischen Wunde und ohne neuen OP-Termin.
Warum wir um Hilfe bitten
Dante hat keine Krankenversicherung, und seine Familie ist bereits stark verschuldet – obwohl sie im günstigsten öffentlichen Krankenhaus Mexikos behandelt werden.
Wir versuchen, 50.000 Euro (ca. $54.000 USD oder 1 Mio. MXN) zu sammeln für:
- Operation und Klinikaufenthalt
- Medikamente und Nachsorge
- Reha und Therapien
- Diagnostik, Labor und laufende Behandlungen
Diese Summe wirkt niedrig, weil die Behandlung in einem Entwicklungsland stattfindet. In Europa oder den USA wäre sie vermutlich dreimal so hoch.
Dante feierte seinen Geburtstag im Krankenhaus - er wurde 7 Jahre alt – in einem Krankenhausbett.
Statt Luftballons und Kuchen versuchte er zu verstehen, warum sein Kopf so sehr schmerzte – und warum seine Mama, seine Heldin, nicht aufhören konnte zu weinen.
Trotzdem schaffte er es, für ein Foto zu lächeln. So ist Dante.

Wir wissen: Die Welt ist voller Leid. Aber wenn ihr könnt – schon eine kleine Spende bringt uns einen Schritt näher daran, Dantes Leben zu retten. Alles Spenden gehen direkt an Renata, die Mama von Dante.
