My name is Ati, I'm currently in Austin, Texas and I'm reaching out with an urgent plea for my dear friend, Charlotte Muhammad who lives in Milwaukee. Charlotte and I met several years ago, and over time our friendship has only grown stronger. On August 10, 2025, a historic storm unleashed its fury on Milwaukee. For many, it was an inconvenience. For Charlotte—a beloved friend and a pillar of her community—it was a catastrophe. Raw sewage flooded her home, destroying nearly everything she owns. Now, as an amputee, she must navigate the overwhelming task of rebuilding her life while facing unimaginable physical challenges. Her strength is incredible, but no one should have to face this alone.
I’m writing this because the strong, independent woman you all know would never ask for this help herself. But right now, she needs us.
The flood destroyed her furnace, hot water tank, and electrical system. She has no heat, no way to cook with gas or electricity, and no hot water. Her washer, dryer, and freezer are gone. 90% of her clothing and household items were ruined. The force of the water was so severe it cracked her home's foundation.
As an amputee, Charlotte faces unique daily challenges, and this disaster has multiplied them a hundredfold. Her insurance only covered a fraction of the cleanup, leaving her to face this immense recovery alone.
Charlotte has spent her life as an Outreach Coordinator, serving others with unwavering dedication. Now, it's our turn to serve her.
Where Your Support Will Go:
We want to lift this burden entirely so Charlotte can focus on getting her life back. Every dollar will go directly to her recovery:
• $20,000: Critical Systems & Structural Repair. To replace the furnace, hot water heater, HVAC, electrical panel, and repair the foundation. (Priority #1)
• $4,000: Essential Appliances. Washer, dryer, and deep freezer.
• $6,000: Personal Belongings. To replace a lifetime of lost clothing, bedding, and necessities, including adaptive items she needs and emergency food supplies which were destroyed.
• $5,000: Temporary Living Assistance. For a safe place to stay and meals while her home is uninhabitable.
• $5,000: Contingency & Fees. For unforeseen issues and GoFundMe’s processing fees.
Donated items are welcomed as well: Charlotte told me that she lost her walker and her cane which she uses to get around. She also told me that she uses her stationary bicycle and treadmill for cardiac rehab 3 times a week. She said, “It was cheaper to own my own treadmill versus going through my insurance, and it allows me to walk during the winter months and inclement weather. I also lost hand weights and my therapy ball that I used for core strengthening.”
How You Can Help:
We are calling on our community to surround Charlotte with the same love she has always shown us.
• Donate: Please give what you can or donate items that she lost such as her exercise equipment or appliances. If you've ever been helped by Charlotte's smile, her work, or her strength, now is the time to show her what that meant to you. Items can be sent to: Charlotte Muhammad, P.O. Box 0534, Milwaukee, WI 53219.
• Share: Share this page on every platform you have. Email it to your networks. Share it with faith communities and public forums. Sharing is just as important as donating.
• Pray: Please keep our sister in your prayers for strength and peace.
A Message from Me:
Knowing Charlotte is a gift. She is the first to help and the last to ask for anything in return. Please everyone, let's show her that she doesn't have to ask—her community sees her, loves her, and will carry her through this.
With gratitude
