Help O'Brien-Hodge Family with Medical Expenses

Donation protected
In May of 2020, Ann/Annie O'Brien was admitted to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois due to major complications of her ongoing auto-immune disease. She had to be taken by ambulance due to the fact that she had lesions all over her body (as a result of her auto-immune disease) that inhibited her from sitting or laying down comfortably.

Upon admission, Carle deemed it more appropriate to transfer her to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois, as they were better equipped to handle Ann's case. When Ann arrived at Memorial, she was in the Burn Unit in order to treat the many lesions on her skin. Soon after admission, her condition worsened exponentially.

She was diagnosed with sepsis, as well as severe infections in her lungs and bladder and severely decreased heart function. She was then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, where they treated her for all these ailments. She had to be intubated for nearly two weeks, as the infection in her lungs prohibited her from breathing on her own. During this time she also was unconscious. Both doctors and loved ones truly did not forsee a possible recovery, and as time passes, hope began to dwindle.

On June 8, 2020, we were gifted a miracle--Ann began to wake up from sedation and was breathing on her own.  On June 17, 2020, after a great amount of recovery, Ann was transferred out of the ICU to a Intermediate Care Unit. From there, she was transferred to different units around Memorial Medical Center a total of 13 times as her condition would decline then improve.

On July 22, after over 2 months at Memorial, Ann was transferred to a Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation Facility where she had to re-learn how to walk and care for herself.

Thursday, July 30, Ann was discharged to go home, being able to walk with the assistance of a walker; but she still needed much assistance for day-to-day life.

Being home faces a lot of challenges for both Ann and her loved ones. Ann had been off work for over 2 months, during which household expenses were taken over by family friends, Erin and Heidi. Several wonderful people helped by donating gift cards to go towards groceries and necessities, and that help meant the world to all involved, as all expenses were coming out-of-pocket from Erin, Heidi, and Ann's daughter Rachel.

At this time, we are raising money for a few things:
1. Medical expenses, including the hospital stay, but also this includes the medical equipment Ann will need at home in order to succeed in her recovery.
2. Day-to-day expenses, including utilities, groceries, home payments, and many related things that cannot avoid being paid, even while Ann is off of work.
3. Home repairs. The O'Brien/Hodge home has fallen into disrepair, and many [expensive] repairs need to be made in order for it to continue to be liveable and safe for both Ann and Rachel.

At this point, we are unsure how much will be required in order to pay for these things; however, every donation is greatly appreciated. Please, do not feel obligated to donate, though. Please share this in order to get the word out and help this wonderful household, and if Ann or her family has ever influenced/touched your life in a positive way, please leave a comment. Ann and her family are truly caring and would give you the world if you needed it. In many cases, Ann has been known to give to those in need and putting others needs ahead of her own.

Please consider helping this loving family in their time of need.
