Asking for Help is a Sign of Strength Anonymous
Some of you may know Amy Neal as a daughter, sister, friend, niece or from her time at the New York Mets, PVH, Skip Hop, Estee Lauder or from our many travel adventures. Now she is embarking on another kind of journey.
Right after the holidays, Amy wasn't feeling right. When talking to her, it was obvious that she wasn't herself. She was speaking very slowly and the words she was using weren't the right ones. Fast forward to January 11 and she called EMS because she knew something was wrong. She was brought to the hospital where initially she was thought to have had a stroke with possible bleeding on the brain but following a CT scan and MRI, a large mass was discovered on her brain. She required surgery to have the mass removed. Further testing determined that the mass was malignant melanoma. The doctors feel that all the tumor was removed with clean margins. A PET scan confirmed that there is no other cancer in her body. She has completed radiation as the first step in her treatment and is now receiving immunotherapy.
The fight has just begun. She is alone and is advocating for herself regarding every aspect. She has become quite overwhelmed with the amount of administrative work while also enduring the side effects of immunotherapy daily. She is unable to work and has no income coming in. She is an independent contractor and is not eligible for any assistance insurance wise. She is navigating the state and federal systems with the hopes of getting the help, services and support she needs and is entitled to. This could take up to six months for any approvals, yet her need for financial support is immediate.
Amy is full of hope and positive energy. Her cancer is very treatable and durable. We want her to focus physically and mentally solely on her recovery and not how she is going to make rent and pay her bills during her months of treatment. Let’s make it a little bit easier on her during this time. Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated.
Much love,
