Injured Mom and Child Retaliated Against After Bat Crisis

Donation protected

My name is Alexandria Brown. I’m a single mother, a college student, and now a survivor of landlord retaliation, unsafe living conditions, and severe injury all while raising my 5-year-old daughter.

On July 5, I reported a bat infestation in our home. The very next day, instead of helping or sending a licensed professional, my landlord served me with a 3-day notice to vacate an act of retaliation in clear violation of our lease. The first bat was never removed by a professional. I had to keep my daughter safe on my own.

We had already been living in over 90°F indoor heat for weeks because of a broken AC my landlord refused to repair. I documented everything, begged for repairs, and still, nothing was done. Instead, he told me I’d be “happier if I left.”

Then, on July 31, another bat entered through the same vent system. This time, I caught it myself for evidence. But while trying to escape the bat, I fell down the stairs and suffered serious injuries contusions to my head, bruising around my ribs, a contusion to my back and foot, a sprained wrist, and a contusion to my shoulder. I was treated at the ER, began a rabies vaccination series, and was prescribed Tramadol, a narcotic pain medication, along with muscle relaxers to manage my pain and inflammation.

This ordeal has caused physical pain, emotional trauma, and severe financial strain. My landlord has still not fixed the bat problem or the extreme heat in our home and continues to retaliate. I am now in the middle of legal action, fighting for justice while trying to keep my daughter safe.

I am asking for help with medical expenses, legal fees, emergency housing, and basic needs as I heal and fight this case. Your support will help us secure safety, stability, and a chance to recover from everything we’ve endured.

Every donation is a lifeline. Please stand with us.
