Help a Domestic Violence Survivor Rebuild Her Life

Donation protected
Hi, thank you so much for being here! We are setting up this GoFundMe for a friend who desperately needs our help. Please read on below -

She made it out alive and needs our help.
She is a daughter, sister, aunt, colleague, and friend who became a prisoner in her own home.

A young woman in our community was abused, tortured, and nearly killed by her husband. She is a survivor and is now pursuing justice to the fullest extent of the law. This account must remain anonymous because her abuser has made direct threats against her and her family. Her location must remain private until he is convicted and she needs her community's help to restart her life.

The following section describes severe domestic violence and attempted murder, please read with care.

What began as a controlling relationship slowly became a years-long nightmare. He systematically isolated her from family and friends, moving them around to ensure they could not contact her. For the last five years, he made the consequences of contact with her loved ones brutally clear - he would kill her, and he would kill them. He slept armed with guns and knives daily and increasingly ramped up his control over their finances. She was forced to work to support them while he monitored her every move.

In the months leading up to the event, his mental state was deteriorating rapidly. The man she married was no longer recognizable, as his behavior became increasingly erratic. The situation at home grew more dangerous by the day, with no outside help or intervention to stop it.

Life Changing Event

Earlier this year, it all came to a head. The final episode between them can only be described as torture and attempted murder. For three days, he locked her inside their home, fired guns as threats, and beat her so severely that she suffered multiple bone fractures, slipped and bulging discs in her neck and back, over 100 deep bruises, multiple hematomas, a concussion, and internal bleeding. He doused her in gasoline and attempted to set her on fire. He used axes, machetes, bullets, and fire to destroy the home around her. He committed unspeakable evil by killing the dog they shared. It is nothing short of a miracle that she made it out alive!!

Neighbors finally called the police after hearing gunshots, and he was apprehended with her held at gunpoint. He is now incarcerated and facing 50 years to life. It is unlikely that he will be able to obtain bail, but not impossible. At the advice of her lawyer, she must remain anonymous to protect herself and her family while the criminal cases proceed. Restraining orders are also in place, but anonymity is her most important shield at this time.

Starting over from nothing.

As you can imagine, the road to recovery is a long one. She spent long periods of time in the hospital and will have to continue to heal herself physically and mentally for the rest of her life. She cannot work while her body heals, and because he had isolated her for years under threat of death, most of her family and friends had no idea where she had been. They thought she had disappeared from their lives.

Her only goal at this point should be to heal physically and mentally, but instead, she has been inundated with unbearable medical, legal, and repair costs. She left their life together with only an old car and a few possessions. The home where the event occurred was a rental, and because their divorce is not final, she is legally on the hook for extensive damages incurred; he has no income or assets to pursue, meaning these costs unfairly fall on her.

She is currently managing:
  • $8,000 Post-Insurance Medical Expenses + expecting thousands more with upcoming scans, PT, meds, etc.
  • $48,500 Rental Home, Appliance, and Furniture damage
-$20,000 house and appliance damage
-$21,000 furniture and goods losses
-$4,500 rent paid while not occupying after the event
-$3,000 unreturned deposit
(she has already paid $10,000 in damages)
  • $5,000 Court, Attorney, and Process Expenses to date + expecting thousands more
  • $25,000 Credit Card Charges - prior to the event, he used credit cards in her name without her authorization to purchase tools, weapons, and supplies, none of which she can recover/return
  • ~$10,000 Personal Property Destroyed - during the event, he destroyed nearly all of her personal belongings, technology, furniture, etc.
To date, she's lost or is liable for an estimated $96,500, with more to come in medical and legal expenses.

Our Goal

As some of her reconnected friends, we are devastated and utterly horrified that this has happened to her. None of us could have imagined that anything like this was occurring. We are setting this fund up to help her out of the financial hole that he's put her in. We are determined to stop his abuse here.

In this time of healing, having any financial assistance would help get her back on her feet and make all the difference. Every dollar is appreciated and will be transferred to pay the debts mentioned above.

If you've made it this far, thank you. We are so grateful that she is still here; that alone is God's miracle. Now we want to give her a chance at a better future and make sure her only focus is on healing.

P.S. If you are unable to give, please share this page! Every share puts her story in front of someone who may be able to help!
