Love for Lori
On October 2nd, 2021, my beautiful sister Lori was seriously injured in a horrific motorcycle accident. The motorcycle she was a passenger on hydro-planed in a rainstorm and she was thrown from the bike into the cabled center median. After being rushed to the nearest hospital to stabilize her condition, she was transported by helicopter to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Once admitted, it was evident that her injuries were so severe that they would alter her life forever.
In the first few days, she underwent numerous long and extensive surgeries in an effort to save her right leg and repair multiple breaks in the other. A few days later, another surgery was required to repair her right arm. It seemed as if there would be no end, and my heart was breaking for my sister.
And then, despite the amazing efforts of some of the world's best surgeons, Lori ultimately had to make the most difficult decision of her life. The decision to amputate her leg. Lori loves the outdoors and spends as much time as possible walking and hiking with her dog Rily. She enjoys camping with friends and all things music. And so, after being counseled by her doctors, that if she wanted to continue to enjoy these activities, it would be best to amputate, she made the heart-wrenching decision to surgically remove her leg.
And now, the long road of physical therapy begins. First, she is working to get self-sufficient enough to go home. Between the cast on her arm for the next few months and daily rehab on her left leg, she will require a wheelchair and much assistance for most basic daily tasks and she will need alterations to her home for safety and mobility. They are currently preparing her for her first prosthesis and all of the medical and therapeutic assistance to get her mobile. And I am sure that there are going to be many trials and many expenses that we have not even conceived of yet.
Lori is loving, funny, and kind. She is a loyal friend who is greatly loved by so many wonderful people, and she is the first to help someone in need. She is a dedicated employee who has worked for the same company for over 10 years and with many of the same coworkers for almost 25 years. She’s worked hard to build a life for herself, but no one could prepare her for the expense that this nightmare has created. Lori's family and friends are staying strong for her and will do everything in their power to support the long journey ahead of her. And though there is not much that most of us can do for Lori to make this difficult journey any easier, this GoFundMe campaign can ease some of the financial burden that is adding to her stress. Please consider donating and sharing this page, so that we can reach as many friends and supporters as possible.
Any funds raised here will go directly to cover Lori’s medical and rehabilitation costs, including prosthetics and therapy. We appreciate the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during these difficult times.
I will provide updates on her journey here.
