In May 2021, Antonio was struck by a vehicle, at full speed on the highway. The injuries sustained was a traumatic brain injury, both of his femurs broke, his left knee obliterated, his R tibia, and L Fibula broke, as well as an 8-inch open gash on his L calf. Other complications led to Antonio’s Left leg being amputated, through his knee. He had to relearn to speak and control his motor movements. Physical therapy helped him gain his strength, and within 2 months went from lying in bed, and begin learning how to sit up, transfer, stand, use a walker and then being able to push himself in his wheelchair. He finally came home in October.
Antonio found God due what he experienced and how his injuries affected him. His devotion was evident as he stood and knelt every Sunday at Mass, even though it hurt him. He suffered unbearable, and at times excruciating pain. Medication allowed short periods of relief, but he never went without pain. He never complained, nor questioned God’s plan. Antonio passed away at home, in his room, on November 23, 2021, leaving his legacy of redemption as an example for all, and testament of God's love.
